Labor’s Budget continues to protect corporate profits while the services we all rely on continue to be neglected.
Many Victorians were hoping that today’s state Budget would do something to fix the big long-term issues we’re facing - like housing unaffordability, the climate crisis and inequality.
Instead Labor’s priorities are to protect the profits of big corporations, putting property investors before renters, gambling companies before communities, and billionaires before everyone else
Property developers are getting $4.4 billion in handouts from Labor, while increasing rents as much as they want.
Gambling companies are set to receive $397 million in tax breaks, while gambling losses surge for everyday people.
Labor are spending an extra $343 million to demolish public housing and build private apartments. This pushes the total cost of demolition to over $2.5 billion, with next to no public housing to replace it.
Labor have splashed $141 million into Victoria Police’s already inflated budget, while our schools are still the lowest funded in the country.
This is a Budget that does nothing to fundamentally fix the big problems our communities are facing, and does nothing to help us deal with future challenges.
Labor won’t take on billionaires and big corporations because they’re funded by them. We’re not.
The Greens have a better plan.
We’ll tax the big corporations– the gambling companies, fossil-fuel companies, and billionaire banks, to:
Lower your energy bills with home upgrades.
Make public transport frequent and free, permanently.
Cap rents so you can afford your home and even save for the future.
