Cross River Rail Delivery Authority

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority Brisbane's new underground. Once operational Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel across the whole of South East Queensland.

Cross River Rail is a much needed second river crossing at the core of the SEQ rail network, with capacity to run as many as 24 trains in each direction per hour. Not only will it unblock a bottle neck at the core of the current rail network and enable increased frequency of trains across the whole of South East Queensland, a second rail path through the CBD will also increase network reliability

and improve rail overall as a customer experience. The project includes a new 10.2km rail line that includes 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is also delivering multiple supporting projects and activities in conjunction with Queensland Rail and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, including accessibility rebuilds for eight surface stations; construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast; upgrades for stabling yards; track works and surface rail enhancements; and the introduction of a new world-class digital train signalling system. Journeys will be quicker door-to-door; there will be new stations in more convenient locations; there will be capacity to run more trains more often; and public transport will become a more viable option for the whole of our region, helping to ease congestion on our roads.

Check out Roma Street's biggest fans - Our massive Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) fans are officially undergoing intensive testing and commissioning.

To give you an idea... the team is carrying out a range of test scenarios across multiple locations throughout the tunnels and stations. This includes measuring airflow, pressure and fan performance, using equipment like ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensors providing accurate readings about production of air pressure and flow by the fans.

These huge fans will keep fresh air circulating through the tunnels and stations, but also need to be able to extract air efficiently in an emergency. They weigh around 4-6 tonnes, are about 2m in length, with a number of units installed across the stations and tunnels.

This is just one of thousands of critical pieces of equipment being rigorously tested before passengers can safely use the new underground stations 🚇 To learn more about all of the stages of testing and commissioning check the comments.

If you haven’t been past Albert Street Station recently, check out these photos 📸 The cladding and skylights are now being installed on the canopy.

The huge entrance is becoming part of the Brisbane skyline and landmark you won’t miss. But it will also provide shade to the new Albert Street Green Spine underneath 🌴 which is currently under construction.

Spotlight on station testing đź’ˇ

The permanent power is officially on at Roma Street and Woolloongabba 🔌⚡ which means lighting tests are underway

It involves a lot more than just flicking a switch… we need to confirm electrical safety, check visibility for safe movements of passengers and workers, emergency lighting tests and more.
