𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗡 – 𝗝𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗬𝗔 (𝗚𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗔) 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 – 𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟱 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗘 🔥

The Parks and Wildlife Service will carry out a prescribed burn in Jarralya (Giralia) National Park from 4 to 5 June 2026. Smoke may be visible in the park and surrounding areas, including Exmouth and Onslow, while the prescribed burn is underway.

The burn is being carried out to manage bushfire risk and biodiversity, for community protection and as part of a land management program.

What to do:
• Smoke may reduce visibility on adjacent roads. Motorists should take care, turn on their headlights and travel at appropriate speeds when in smoke-affected areas.
• Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. Please follow all traffic management in the area.
• People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.

Milyering Discovery Centre, the heart of visitor information in Cape Range National Park, is getting a much-needed refresh!

Having welcomed visitors since 1988, we are pleased to announce that a full refurbishment has begun to create a modern and welcoming space.

𝗨𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝘂𝗷𝘂𝗴𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 🚫

Murujuga National Park rangers are investigating a serious incident of unauthorised access and vandalism at the Jump Up track (Conzinc Bay access).

The track beyond the Jump Up is currently closed to the public due to planning works for a sealed road to future day-use areas.

Over the weekend, unknown individuals illegally gained entry by using cutting equipment to remove the gate and chains, causing extensive damage. The main steel gate has been heavily damaged and will need to be replaced.

Monitoring cameras in the area were also vandalised.

Karratha Police have been notified and are investigating. The Parks and Wildlife Service is also seeking assistance from the public.

A replacement gate and access controls will be installed as soon as possible. In the meantime, the area remains closed.

Visitors are reminded to respect park closures and infrastructure — for your safety and to help protect our park values.

𝗚𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝘂𝗹𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸

Meet the team of scientists, rangers and marine experts who have recently returned from the latest expedition across the proposed Exmouth Gulf Marine Park, continuing vital research into how sharks, rays and fish use one of WA’s most unique marine environments.

This marks the fourth expedition to the region, and the first for 2026, providing an important opportunity to monitor marine life and environmental impacts after Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

By tracking movement, behaviour and habitat use, the team is building a clearer picture of how these species, including some that are critically endangered globally, move, survive and thrive in the Gulf.

What’s happening on the water?
✅ Tracking shark and ray populations, including sawfish and wedgefish
✅ Monitoring small fish in nearshore habitats
✅ Studying movement and behaviour using advanced tracking technology
✅ Assessing the health of juvenile rays
✅ Maintaining acoustic listening stations following Tropical Cyclone Narelle

Each expedition builds on the last - adding critical data to support conservation, management and long-term protection of these species and their habitats. Stay tuned as more insights emerge.

This work is a partnership between Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, University, Minderoo Foundation and DBCA Baiyungu rangers.

We are proud to release the 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 - a snapshot of what can be achieved through strong partnerships, shared knowledge and action on Country.

Since launching in 2024, this collaboration between DBCA, Rio Tinto and Traditional Owners in the Pilbara continues to deliver impactful conservation outcomes across Karijini and Millstream Chichester national parks.

Over the past year, we have achieved:
✅ Expanded involvement of Aboriginal rangers and stronger partnerships on Country
🔥 More than 465,000 hectares managed through prescribed burning
🐾 513 large feral herbivores removed to protect ecosystems
🌿 Hundreds of hours of w**d control and mapping delivered
📍 80 field surveys conducted to inform land unit mapping and modelling
📊 120 research sites and 90 camera traps deployed to improve our understanding of fire, biodiversity and species movement

As we look ahead, our focus is clear:
👉 Strengthen partnerships with Traditional Owners
👉 Advance the science that supports best practice
👉 Continue scaling impact across the region

There were no dingo sightings or activity reported in the Dales Campground overnight on Sunday.

Rangers will continue daytime and overnight patrols as a precaution.

𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝟵.𝟯𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

A male dingo identified as the main offender, recognisable by a distinctive tip on his tail and part of a pack of three, was humanely destroyed by rangers at approximately 6am this morning.

Rangers will continue patrols during the day and overnight to locate and humanely destroy the remaining two dingoes to ensure public safety.

𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝟭𝗽𝗺 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟰 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹

There were no further sightings of dingoes in or around the Dales Campground overnight.

This morning, rangers are on the ground continuing patrols and monitoring activity in the area.

Additional rangers will be mobilised from dusk through the night and over the long weekend to continue efforts to locate and where necessary, humanely destroy the problem dingoes as soon as a safe opportunity presents.

Dingoes live in Karijini National Park and are an important part of the local ecosystem, however if they lose their wariness of people they can become aggressive.

The Parks and Wildlife Service is urging visitors to Dales campground in Karijini National Park to remain alert and take extra precautions following three recent dingo attacks at the campground.

Dales campground remains open and is welcoming visitors, with park rangers and campground hosts advising campers of the dingo risk on arrival and providing safety information.

Great news for campers! Many campgrounds across the Ningaloo Coast will reopen from Monday 27 April, following safety checks and clean up works after Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

𝗥𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟳 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹:
✅ Cape Range National Park – all campgrounds reopening except Boat Harbour and One K (still inaccessible).
✅ Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves – all campgrounds reopening except sites 12 to 28 at 14 Mile, which need complete rebuilding.

𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱:
❌ Nyinggulara National Park – campgrounds sustained significant damage and will require full rebuilding. Emergency communications are currently unavailable due to radio tower damage.
❌ Boat Harbour and One K in Cape Range National Park.
❌ Sites 12 to 28 at 14 Mile in Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves.

𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱:
▶️ Visitors with bookings will be contacted via email today and cancellations will be processed over the coming days.
▶️ Boat Harbour and One K – bookings will be cancelled through to 10 May, at this stage.
▶️ 14 Mile (sites 12-28) – all current bookings will be cancelled through to 29 October.
▶️ Nyinggulara National Park – all current bookings will be cancelled through to 25 September.

There’s plenty to explore on the Ningaloo Coast! All day use sites in Ningaloo Marine Park, Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves, Bundegi Conservation Park and Jurabi Conservation Park are open. Most of Cape Range National Park is open, except Charles Knife Canyon.

The region is welcoming visitors, with most of the 200+ licensed tour operators across Ningaloo and Exmouth open and taking bookings.

𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 – 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀🏕️

Going into the weekend, we wanted to share a big ‘thank you’ to all our recovery partners across the community.

There’s been a lot happening in local national parks, campgrounds and marine parks over the last week, from cultural and heritage site assessments through to essential safety works on infrastructure for visitors. We’ve been working on re-building campgrounds, steps, paths, boardwalks, fencing, road access… check out the pics of our team hard at work in Cape Range National Park and Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves.

We’ve also had expert technical staff from Perth restoring emergency communications towers across Cape Range National Park and Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves.

And there’s still plenty of work ahead as our team moves closer to final visitor risk management assessments for all campsites and day-use areas. More information will be provided over coming days and we will contact campers directly if there are impacts to existing bookings.

The great news? Most operators are now open and ready for visitors, offering some of the best ways to experience Ningaloo safely, responsibly and sustainably, including the much loved whale shark experiences.
