🌿🚨 Katherine Research Station Open Day 🚨🌿

The NT Emergency Service - Katherine Unit was proud to attend the Katherine Research Station Open Day, showcasing some of the specialist equipment and technology available to support our region.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn about our capabilities and view some of our latest equipment, including our thermal binoculars and the DJI Matrice 4T drone, which assist our volunteers in search and rescue, flood response, damage assessments, and community safety operations.

A huge thank you to Harley and the management team at Woolworths Katherine for their generous donation of fresh fruit and juice boxes, which we were able to hand out to visitors throughout the day. Your support helped make the event even more enjoyable for everyone who attended. 🍎🍌🧃

Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, asked questions, and showed an interest in what our volunteers do for the Katherine community. We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with the public and showcase how we help keep our region safe. 💛

Round Four applications for the Commonwealth 's Disaster Ready Fund are now open.

This is an opportunity to apply for funding that helps communities protect themselves against the impacts of natural hazards across the Territory.

Previously successful Territory applications include a cyclone shelter and emergency coordination facility.

If you are interested to learn more, virtual webinars will be held to provide information and address any questions you may have.

🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 WOW ~~ 😘

The most orange day of the year is coming soon.

Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW day) is on May 20 and is the time to recognise and thank the incredible NT Emergency Service volunteers who dedicate their time and skills to support our community. If you’ve received assistance from NTES volunteers over the last few months of wild weather, you can thank them by getting involved in WOW Day.

To show your support this WOW Day, you can wear orange and host a morning tea at your school, workplace or community area.

This year children can get involved by sending a letter of kindness to share a personal message to our NTES volunteers. Simply submit the letters of kindness and coloured-in cartoons of SES mascot Paddy the Platypus by emailing [email protected].
Every submission leads to a chance for NTES to visit your school!

The letter and colouring-in template, tips to host a banger morning tea, and more info can be found here: https://vist.ly/42ijj

We want to see how orange you can get! Share photos of your morning teas with .

We have seen so many amazing people help their community over the past few weeks. You may have seen some of them on the news and all over social media.
But some have chipped away quietly in the background, but deserve just as much recognition.
One of them is Paul Attard from Adbri Concrete.
Not only did he donate sand, but - together with his team - Paul packed hundreds of sandbags in the days leading up to the flood.
He helped us get a headstart and be better prepared for what was to come.
We are immensely grateful for Paul's help and support, and his care for the community he calls home 🧡

Easter in the Territory is a time to rest and reconnect, especially as many regions continue to feel the effects of recent severe weather events.

If you’re travelling, camping or heading out bush, ensure you:
🐰 Avoid floodwaters, whether on foot or in your vehicle
🐰 Take your emergency kit with you; it already contains lots of handy camping supplies
🐰 Let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll return
🐰 Check Road Report NT for up to date information about road closures
🐰Stay up to date with warnings at SecureNT.

Take care of yourself and each other this long weekend.

We all get by with a little help from our friends, including us here at NTES! 🧡

40 interstate volunteers are now arriving in Katherine to work alongside our local NTES crews.

Our local crews have already completed well over 60 priority jobs in the last few days alone, and now have additional capacity to help with remaining flood and storm damage, including:

🔸Damaged trees
🔸Damaged fences
🔸Remaining muck outs
🔸Any new damage.

If you’ve got damage and could use a hand sorting it out, call it in, Katherine.

📞 Call 132 500 to request storm or flood assistance.

The work we can do will depend on safety and complexity, and some jobs may still need specialist trades, but if we can help, we will.
