A botanic garden is far more than a collection of plants - it's a place where conservation, science and nature come together.

On National Threatened Species Day, we're shining a light on the vital conservation work happening behind the scenes to protect species at risk of disappearing from our landscapes forever.

Working alongside partner botanic gardens, researchers, volunteers and government agencies, we help conserve threatened local plant species through seed banking, propagation, research, population monitoring and growing insurance collections. We also propagate plant for reintroduction to wild sites to help restore populations.

These efforts support species such as the Carrington Falls Pomaderris (Pomaderris walshii) and Sublime Point Pomaderris (Pomaderris adnata) pictured here

We also manage the important natural areas at Mount Keira, Puckey’s Estate Nature Reserve and Korrongulla Wetland.

πŸ¦‰ The Garden and the annex sites also support a number of threatened animal species including the Flying Fox, Powerful Owls and occasional visitors like the Regent Honeyeater who are attracted to plants within the Garden and the habitat features we’ve created in the collections.

Every plant saved helps strengthen the web of life that supports countless other species.

Hello Spring 🌼

Today is , and if there was ever a plant that knew how to make an entrance, it's the wattle. Dressed head to toe in golden blooms, it's nature's way of announcing that winter is over.

The Garden is glowing with spectacular golden blossoms as Australia's favourite floral show-off takes centre stage.

πŸ“Head to the Towri Bush Tucker Garden and Australian Open Forest Collections to see some of our wattles putting on their annual spring performance. You might even spot a few stars of the show at our annex site, Puckeys Estate Nature Reserve.

Did you know?
🌿 Wattle is Australia's national floral emblem
πŸ”₯ Many species can regenerate after bushfires
β˜€οΈ They thrive through drought, wind and tough conditions
πŸ’› Australia is home to almost 1,000 wattle species

Drop in and celebrate the first day of spring with a walk around the Garden and say hello to Australia's favourite golden show-off.

πŸ“· We'd love to see your wattle photos. Share them with us using
