On 21 May, we celebrated the official opening of the newly renovated Women and Art Centre in Burringurah! (Yes, even the cow came to celebrate! 😉)

This project has been a true community effort from the start.
• 7 local people employed in construction
• Real training and hands-on skills gained
• Community Centre renovated and now fully operational
• Women and Art Centre reopened as a creative and cultural hub

Now, locals can use the Women and Art Centre to create artwork, preserve culture, and build micro-businesses by selling pieces at the community shop and Mt Augustus Resort.

A huge thanks to the local workers, community leaders, and partners who made this happen.

We're proud to share Tonuia's story, because it shows how trust unlocks potential.

As a young deaf Torres Strait Islander, Tonuia has navigated countless barriers with remarkable strength and determination. But one of the most powerful moments in our journey together was about connection.

During a recent appointment, Tonuia opened up about something close to his heart: his passion for art and painting, and his dream of building a career from it.

That moment of trust was significant. It reflected the safe, supportive space our Inclusive Employment Australia team in Kotara works hard to create—where people feel comfortable sharing not just their challenges, but their aspirations.

We immediately purchased art supplies so Tonuia could start bringing his vision to life. We recognise that meaningful employment support includes recognising each person's unique strengths and helping them build pathways that reflect who they are.

Tonuia's willingness to share his dreams shows growing confidence and connection. We're honoured to walk alongside him as he explores his creativity and works toward a future aligned with his identity, strengths, and goals.

The support we provide is personal, it's purposeful, and it starts with listening.

Jamien broke into the mining industry by doing the hard yards, nailing his interviews and committing to a whole new career path. We’re so proud to have been able to support him!

Here’s how we opened doors for Jamien.

Note: Jamien was a participant in the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

Say hello to Terrance, the newest Regional Force Surveillance Unit Combat Support Operator with the Pilbara Regiment!

Terrance’s journey began when he attended an Australian Defence Force information session through our Transition to Work program — and it opened his eyes to a future he hadn’t considered before. Since then, with support from our Geraldton team, he’s completed his assessments, progressed through the intake process, and officially graduated.

Our encouragement and practical support helped him:
✅ Get his ID documentation verified
✅ Get to Perth so he could complete his assessments

We’re proud to celebrate Terrance and this incredible milestone as he takes the next step in his career with the ADF.

Jye, we’re so proud of how far you’ve come!

When Jye first joined our Transition to Work program in October 2024, he was facing a lot of uncertainty. He didn’t have a job and was couch surfing — so our first priority was making sure he had somewhere safe to sleep.

From there, we worked alongside Jye to help him build the skills and confidence he needed to become job-ready and financially independent.

Together, we focused on:
- building budgeting skills through a financial literacy workshop
- preparing for job interviews, including personal presentation
- creating a resume
- practising interview techniques
- making sure he had phone credit so employers could contact him

Since then, Jye has:
✅ Attained his RSA, opening up more opportunities for him to work in hospitality
✅ Landed a job at a fast food chain

We’re continuing to support Jye through our driver safety workshops so he can get his driver’s licence and save up to buy a car. Having a car would be life-changing. It would give Jye greater independence, make it easier to get to work, open up more job opportunities, and help him take another important step towards long-term stability.

You’ve come so far, Jye, and we can’t wait to see what else you achieve!

Vargo, we’re so impressed with how you’ve stepped up and adapted to resilience and maturity beyond your years!

A young father who recently finished school, Vargo started working as a farm hand four weeks ago and is focused on building a future for himself and his young family. His hands-on experience with household responsibilities and maintaining structure at home has equipped him well, making his adjustment to the role seamless.

Through the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program, Vargo enjoys working alongside people he knows in his community, saying that it makes him feel supported in the workplace.

“One of the aspects I enjoy most is planting and caring for plants. I value learning practical skills that I can also apply at home. I am particularly interested in further developing my machinery skills and building confidence in operating equipment,” he shares.

The proud Yinggarda man has already obtained his First Aid certificate and is currently working towards his Certificate I in Horticulture. He plans to achieve more:
• Gain his driver’s licence, with the support of the Driving Access and Equity Program (a Department of Transport initiative delivered by Real Futures)
• Participate in the “Protecting Our Country Project” as a Country Protection Officer, where he will undertake 12 weeks of extensive training (including a Certificate III in Agriculture).

Vargo, we love your positive attitude and your teamwork skills and can’t wait to see you achieve more!
