Kenthurst Brigade along with other Hills Brigade members, including Fire Control staff, proudly laced up their boots to participate once again, in the annual โ€˜Relay for Lifeโ€™ Charity event.

It was fantastic to see such an incredible turnout, and as a collective group The Hills RFS put in a wonderful effort to place third overall in the team standings. A huge thank you goes out to every single person who participated across all the teams to help raise vital funds and awareness.

This cause is deeply personal for us, as firefighters face a significantly higher risk of cancer due to the dangerous contaminants encountered at fires. Under the โ€˜Firefighters Presumptive Cancer Legislationโ€™, any firefighter diagnosed with cancer, who meets the criteria, will be fully provided with the support they need.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, and to those who came along to cheer us all on. ๐Ÿ’›

โฑ๏ธSunday 26th & Monday 27th April โฑ๏ธ

Just letting the residents in the Annangrove, Kenthurst, Kellyville and Glenhaven areas know that there is a planned hazard reduction burn taking place tomorrow, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th April.

Smoke will be present across Sunday and Monday in the area. Crews have been preparing this burn for some time now and will be taking advantage of the favourable conditions over the weekend.

There will be contraflow traffic for a period on Bannerman Road on Sunday so please factor this in if you are going somewhere, and please slowdown in the burning area.

Here's what you need to know:
โžก๏ธThe burn will encompass an area of approximately 21 hectares and is expected to start around 10:30am tomorrow morning.

โžก๏ธExpect traffic disruptions during the burn, including reduced speed limits.

If you live or are travelling through the area during the burn:
- Please be patient, and give way to emergency vehicles and personnel throughout the day and night.
- If driving, slow down, keep windows up, and turn on your headlights.

๐Ÿ”ฅ As the burn will generate smoke, embers, and heat, please consider the following precautions:
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
- Store outdoor furniture under cover to protect against ember burns.
- Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage.
- Remove washing from clotheslines.
- Ensure pets have a safe and protected area.
โ—๏ธIf you have asthma or a respiratory condition, limit outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high, and shortness of breath or coughing occurs, take your reliever medication or seek medical advice.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you for your cooperation.

Many watching the ANZAC eve โ€˜Lest We Forget Tributeโ€™ broadcast from Sydneyโ€™s opera house on Channel Seven at sunset last night would have recognised a dapper veteran sitting in the front row amongst many distinguished Australians. We saw him again today when Kenthurst Rotary hosted the traditional commemoration in John Benyon Park.

Ray โ€˜Bigglesโ€™ Hancock, a one time Royal Navy fighter pilot and later participant in important Australian defence projects, is a long-standing and well-regarded member of Kenthurst RFS Brigade. Many will have meet him at the fire station during โ€˜FireReadyโ€™ training sessions for local residents.

Rayโ€™s RFS colleagues are proud that โ€˜Bigglesโ€™ was nominated by Castle Hill RSL to represent all veterans at the sunset concert. That event was the brainchild of Sir Peter Cosgrove, Australiaโ€™s former Chief of Defence and then Governor General and was designed to focus our commemorations โ€œat the going down at the sunโ€. It proved to be a very moving gathering and was attended by past Prime Ministers and prominent civic leaders as well as numerous senior Defence Force o๏ฌƒcers.

A poignant re-enactment of our troops landing at Gallipoli was facilitated by
a flotilla of Surf Life Saving boats rowing into Farm Cove. Of course, that water-borne tribute also acknowledged the loss of 21 young sailors in HMAS Kuttabul which was sunk by an enemy midget submarine in our harbour in 1942. A choir and full orchestra, backed by traditional Pipes and Drums and other military musicians, provided accompaniment to entertainers like Little Patti, Dami Im, Mark Vincent and Jane Rutter while actors Bryan Brown and Sir Sam Neill reverently recited commemorative poems.

Last night's Tribute concluded with the last rays of the sun when a Legacy Torch Procession from the west brought the โ€˜eternal flameโ€™ to light the Flame of Remembrance. And โ€˜Bigglesโ€™ was there again today to remind us that the Spirit of ANZAC marches on. Rayโ€™s presence and that of great Australians like him continually inspires us to do our best. And so as ANZAC Day passes this does not mean the end of our respect for veterans and the values for which they fought.

Indeed, all who truly adhere to the โ€˜Spirit of ANZACโ€™ live by the principles those veterans stood for, Nor is it some sort of esoteric concept. It is a living thing that
patriotic Australians put into practice every day.

At Kenthurst RFB, we see that spirit in action, in service to community, in mateship on the fireground, and in the quiet willingness to step forward when others need help. Ray โ€˜Bigglesโ€™ Hancock embodies these values, and we are privileged to stand alongside him.

We thank him for his service, his legacy, and his continued presence within our Brigade.

Lest We Forget.๐ŸŒบ

A Total Fire Ban will be in place today, Saturday 10th January. The Greater Sydney Region is forecast to experience Extreme Fire Danger with hot, dry and windy conditions.

Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Be ready to act.

๐Ÿšจ If you see an unattended fire or smoke, call 000 (Triple Zero) immediately.

๐Ÿ”ธThese are dangerous fire conditions.
๐Ÿ”ธCheck your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
๐Ÿ”ธIf a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.

๐ŸšซTOTAL FIRE BAN RULES๐Ÿšซ

โžก๏ธ No fires during a Total Fire Ban

โžก๏ธ During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

โžก๏ธ General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.

โžก๏ธ The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.

โ—๏ธReminderโ—๏ธ

โœ… STAY HYDRATED โ€“ Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
โœ… AVOID PROLONGED OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES - especially during the hottest part of the day. Seek shade and take regular breaks if you need to be outside.
โœ… SLIP SLOP SLAP โ€“ Protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing.
โœ… CHECK ON OTHERS โ€“ Look out for vulnerable people in our community, including elderly neighbours or those with health conditions.
โœ… KEEP HYDRANTS CLEAR: Ensure hydrant covers are kept clear of grass/soil and NEVER park over them.
โœ… GEAR READY: Ensure hoses reach all corners of your home. Test your pumps and generators, make sure they are primed and fueled.
โœ… GUTTERS: Clear out dry leaves and twigs.
โœ… ROOF: Repair damaged or missing tiles.
โœ… YARD: Mow lawns and clear away dry debris, woodpiles and any fuel from the house.
โœ… TREES: Trim overhanging branches away from your roofline.
โœ… SCREENS: Check fine metal mesh screens on windows and doors.
โœ… SPACES: Enclose areas under the house or decking.
