One of our recent trainings we carried out was based around community engagement and education. This was a good refresher for members to get up to speed with helping you, the community members with any queries or questions about fire safety and in particular your bushfire survival plan.

Coming up in September on Saturday the 19th we will be holding our get ready weekend which will be a perfect time to come and have a chat to our firefighters and start the conversation about how to make a plan!

Also a timely reminder after having a busy couple of weeks with fire activity to make sure you have all the equipment required, notify your neighbours and the RFS of your planned burns.

One last thing, remember to ring 000 for unattended fires!

In the early hours of this morning we were called to attend a truck fire on the old Pacific Highway just south of the Johns River Village. It was around 1:40am when we were alerted!

Also in attendance was Johns River Fire Brigade Public Page Moorland Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 358 Laurieton.

With many many many thousands of litres of water it was eventually extinguished and the salvage operation will be under way this morning. RFS crews arrived back in their stations around the 5:30am mark and got to work cleaning their gear and re stocking the truck.

A top effort from all involved and a good opportunity to reach out and again reach out to the community for some new members! We could really use an extra few hands and would love to hear from you!

Also hats off to the truck driver that managed to unhook his prime mover from the combination, saved us a lot of hours of work and I’m sure the boss will appreciate you saving the truck mate!

Tragic news out of the US.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

Tragic news overnight out of the North Coast. Our thoughts are with their friends, families, fellow volunteers, along with the greater Marine Rescue community as they deal with this tragedy. 🩵

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
