Last week, EDO alongside Roselene Best, a Kombumerri and Ngugi Traditional Owner, had the opportunity to present at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Summit 2026 on ‘Protecting water-country: First Nations participation in water planning on the Gold Coast’.

The week-long summit brought together conversations and sessions from across the country, highlighting important topics for First Nations peoples and communities. We were grateful to contribute to a session exploring the significance and connection of water, water justice advocacy, and opportunities to strengthen water protections through law and policy reform.

A special thank you to Rose (seated centre), Jonathon Captain-Webb (seated right), and Maeve Parker (seated left) for leading such an important and powerful discussion on water justice.

We would also like to thank AIATSIS for the opportunity, and extend our appreciation to everyone who joined our session and connected with us throughout the summit. We look forward to continuing these conversations and hope to return to present and attend again in the future.
