Priority remains growing the petition to support government pressure- so please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE and ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. Remember, even if you have signed something else - you need to sign this one too.
Despite the rain, lovely to see so many people enjoying the foreshore heritage track, from Flat Rock Beach to the Point, plus some more adventurous walkers continuing along the western foreshore track from the Point towards Davidson.

Calling all locals.....
STEP ONE was completed last week - with indiciations from government that intent to look into purchasing the property remains and discussions are occuring. Thanks for the great community support to date!

STEP TWO: Continue to grow our petition, to show strength of feeling of local constituents and to increase the pressure to negotiate the purchase.
It seems that not everyone understood that EVEN IF YOU ALREADY SIGNED another petition - you need to SIGN THIS TOO.. as this is designed to consolidate the 3 that were already progressing.

We URGENTLY need MORE SIGNATURES to lobby Government to buy this land for public use & careful management.
Onselling this land privately risks:
- more track closures
- reduced access to existing heritage tracks around the point
- more damage to NPWS lands
- damage to land of historical significance

URGENT request. The current number of signatures is only slightly greater than the number of page likes we have. We need many more if we are to show strong community feeling about this.

We keep hearing that various government bodies are interested in buying Killarney Point- when we approach them they will not confirm this.

The problem is until the property is sold, none of us will know. We must keep the pressure on the politicians to ensure this land is returned to public use.

It is also NOT a private peninsula-
60% of the peninsula is National Parks land.

After years of debate Sydney Harbour’s only private peninsula of more than 15ha of waterfront land is for sale and already there are international buyers lining up.

Why Killarney Point Matters-

Firstly the closed Flat Rock Beach track must be reopened, so hundreds of people a week don’t get redirected onto the road and miss our beautiful bush land.

Secondly, Killarney Point has been literally trashed. The peninsula has been treated as a private tip, the building set alight repeatedly until it burned down and then left to slowly rot, the cliff face has been destroyed, hundreds of car tyres are polluting the land and water, and lantana is running rampant. The whole place is in desperate need of some serious care and attention.

Lastly this is the heart of Carigal and Cammeraigal land- and we suspect the traditional owners would be heartbroken to see the destruction that has been allowed to happen there- amongst their ancient middens and hidden artworks.

We the people of Killarney Heights need to tell our politicians this is not acceptable and our votes are influenced by the way they help return and restore this spectacular land to the people.

We’ve organised a mail drop to everyone in Killarney to try to raise awareness and increase the numbers who have signed the petition.

If you bump into someone this weekend please ask them if they have signed yet- it’s our best way to get the government to pay attention to the situation at Killarney Point.

As most of you know the auction on Nov 11 was cancelled. We understand there is now agreement by the mortgagee that the property may be sold.

Various news reports and rumors have reached us that the government has placed an expression of interest to buy the property and return the land to the NPWS.

We have been UNABLE to confirm this. Nothing is assured, to our knowledge, at this point.

Some of you have said you’d like to help us with this cause. There are some easy things to do- walk the Warringa Track and generate interest in the track. Getting people onto Killarney Point is a great way to show this is NOT a private peninsula and 60% of it is our land.

Make sure you access the track from the Warringa Heritage Track (start at the end of the steps to the right at the bottom of Killarney Drive.)

You can access the track at the corner of Connemara and Killarney Drive but this ‘technically’ crosses about 3m of closed track on the way down.

Stay off the small section of private land and especially the house as it is hazardous.

2. Raise awareness in the community- talk to your friends.

3. Write to State and Local members- or hit them up on their social media. Sign our petition.

4. Keeping the old track clear and accessible is a challenge, there is lots of lantana especially. Let National Parks know if you are able to help get rid of this scurge. They have advised us in the past to ‘go for it’- our understanding is lantana is fair game, so ask them if they are happy for you to join the effort!

Thanks to our Heritage volunteers this morning for checking out the Western track (the Point to Davidson).

It is definitely more rugged than the eastern side (and not yet suitable for those who like the flat) but still a beautiful path.

Until you become familiar with the track, you may find entry easier to spot starting from the main track to Davidson.

It is well marked 20m west of the western metal fence, installed on National Parks land by the owners of 107 at the top of the ‘fire trail’ down to 107.

As always, keep to the NPWS waterside land at the Point and off the private area (pic below).

If you do explore take lots of pics and share them!...and if you manage to do the whole circuit from the Magazine Track at the bottom of the Killarney Steps through to Davidson, we want to hear that too.
