🚨🔥 **Smoke Alarm Action Day** 🔥🚨

Smoke Alarm Action Day encourages all Australians to regularly test, clean, and replace their smoke alarms. 🏠

With nearly half of home fire fatalities occurring in properties without working smoke alarms, taking a few seconds to press the test button could save your life.

Make sure your home is protected by following these essential safety steps:

✅ Test Monthly
Press and hold the test button until the alarm beeps three times. 🔊

🧹 Clean Annually
Gently vacuum around the alarm or wipe the cover to remove dust and bugs that can block smoke from reaching the sensor. 🕷️

🔋Replace Batteries
If your alarm uses a standard 9-volt battery, replace it every year.
If it has a sealed 10-year lithium battery, the battery does not need replacing, but the entire unit must be replaced after 10 years. ⏳

📅 Check the Expiry Date
Smoke alarms should be completely replaced every 10 years. If your alarm is faded yellow, damaged, or over 10 years old, it’s time for a new one. 🚨

🏡 A working smoke alarm provides early warning and gives you and your loved ones the best chance to escape safely in a fire 🔥

Over the past couple of months, Kingscliff Firefighters have been out and about conducting Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSV) and inspecting local hydrants to help keep our community safe.

Home Fire Safety Visits are free of charge for vulnerable or elderly residents, and for anyone unable to check or maintain their smoke alarms. We also provide practical fire safety advice to help keep you, your family, and your home safe.

Fire Safety Reminders:

• Don’t leave lithium batteries charging unattended, and only use genuine batteries and chargers.
• Every home or livable dwelling in NSW must have a working smoke alarm.
• Regularly check gas bottles and BBQ connections for leaks or damage.
• Clean lint filters in clothes dryers after every use to reduce fire risk.
