A huge thank you to Warriors 4 Wildlife for featuring Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter in last month’s Shelter Spotlight and for generously providing us with a grant to purchase an incredible new piece of equipment that is going to make a real difference to our rescue work.

Thanks to their support and another donation we received we have been able to purchase a thermal imaging monocular, which was highly recommended to us by another wildlife shelter, thanks Shelley👍.

This amazing technology can detect heat signatures and changes in temperature allowing us to locate sick, injured and distressed animals much more quickly, especially during nighttime rescues.

In the past, searching thick bushland, tree tops, roadside vegetation and long grass could take hours of painstaking work.

With this thermal imaging equipment, we will be able to identify animals far more efficiently, making rescues quicker, easier and safer for both our rescuers and the animals we are trying to help.

This equipment will have a significant impact on the work we do and will help us give wildlife the best possible chance of receiving the care they need in the quickest time.

Thank you to Warriors 4 Wildlife and all of their amazing volunteers for supporting wildlife carers and shelters like ours. Your dedication and generosity are helping save countless native animals every day and we are incredibly grateful.

A huge thank you to Kaye and her little sidekick, Simba, for their incredible generosity! 💕 Kaye kindly popped a beautiful bundle of polar fleece in the post all the way from Melbourne to help keep our precious joeys warm, safe and comfortable. Every piece of fleece helps us create much-needed joey pouches and bedding, and we are so grateful for your support. Thank you, Kaye and Simba, for thinking of our wildlife and making a difference from afar!

⚠️ HEAVY FOG WARNING & WILDLIFE⚠️
Please take extra care on the roads this time of year. Reduced visibility can make driving extremely dangerous, especially in areas where wildlife may be close to the roadside.
Remember: the speed limit is the maximum speed in IDEAL conditions — it is NOT always the safe speed. Slow down, increase your following distance, use your headlights appropriately and drive to the conditions.
Arriving a few minutes later is far better than not arriving at all.
Stay safe and keep an eye out for wildlife.

A huge thank you to this wonderful family who were up here enjoying the long weekend and taking in the sunshine, fresh air and beautiful outdoors, yet still found time to lend a hand.

Instead of spending every moment relaxing, they rolled up their sleeves and helped prepare mountains of mixed fruit for the wildlife in our care. Our fridges and freezers are now full. Their generosity, hard work and willingness to give back while on holidays made a huge difference and was so greatly appreciated.

A special thank you also goes to Harriet from Tocumwal, who spent time helping to cut up apples and kiwifruit (thanks Manto Produce) for our hungry flying foxes. Your help was invaluable and very much appreciated by both our carers and the animals. 🦇🍎🥝

It was lovely to see people enjoying quality time together while also helping local wildlife. Acts of kindness like this remind us just how amazing our community is.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for your time, your effort and your support. We hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

👚Go Pink for June - DAY 9👚

Today we are featuring one very special team member of the Dutch Thunder Pink Galahs — 103 year old George!

George spent part of his day today sewing joey pouches with the donated polar fleece for the orphaned wildlife in our care, this sort of kindness, compassion and community spirit has no age limit.

Thank-you George for your incredible support and for helping keep our little joeys warm, safe and comfortable. You are an absolute inspiration to us all!!!

Also a big thanks to Barb, Georges daughter for her help too.😜💕

Can anyone recommend a local supplier of gravel, road base or similar material?

With all the recent rain, parts of the shelter have become flooded, extremely wet, muddy and very slippery, creating a safety risk for both our volunteers and the wildlife in our care.

If you know of a local business that supplies quality material at a reasonable price and can deliver or if you have any contacts who may be able to help, please let us know in the comments or send us a message.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
