Koonwarra Fire Brigade is a small Country Fire Authority Brigade located 140 km South East of Melbourne.

Our members attend fire and other emergencies across South Gippsland.

The Fire Danger Period will be coming to an end on 7/4/2026.
Please remember to take precautions when burning off and register your burn.

30/03/2026

This Thursday a planned burn will take place at Fauna Reserve.
You may see a high number of emergency vehicles in the area.
Please follow instructions from Crew/ Traffic control when passing the burn site and remember to slow to 40km/h when passing Emergency vehicles with their lights on.

Planned burns are an important preventative of future fires.

***TOTAL FIRE BAN***
Tuesday 17th Feb 2026 has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban.
No fire can be lit, or are allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12:01am until 11:59pm.

15/02/2026

CFA is currently attending a gas main rupture in Leongatha.
Tankers are still on scene, monitoring the situation.
You may smell gas in the area for the time being, but there is no need to be alarmed. The situation is under control and the odour should clear soon.

A total fire ban has been put in place for Wednesday 11th Feb beginning at 00:01am until 23:59pm.

A total fire ban has been issued for the 27th Jan 2026 between the hours of 00:01am until 23:59pm
No fire can be lit or remain alight in open air during this time.

A total fire ban has been declared for the whole state of Victoria from 24th Jan 00:01am until 24th Jan 23:59pm
Please adhere to the ban and follow advice provided by authorities.

The last few days have seen terrible fires ravaging our state, with a continueing campaign to quell them still very much underway, to this end CFA crews are being drawn upon from far a wide to help with this effort, including many members from our local brigades and district.

Koonwarra brigade has approximately 15 active members, that selflessly spring into action in times like these. Often in support of our neighbouring brigades just as they do in return, all of us together striving to keep the greater community safe.

The importantance of your support via donations, kind words and "likes" through social media can not be understated, and is greatly appreciated, however it is YOU that we need most, so please consider helping us support and protect YOUR community by joining your local CFA brigade today.

***TOTAL FIRE BAN***

A statewide fire ban is in place for Sunday 11th from 12:01am until 11:59pm.

It is important to remember that everyone adhering to the current restrictions is vital for keeping our community safe.

On Friday, the Koonwarra fire brigade assisted in preventing the spread of a bonfire that had self reignited due to the high temperatures.
Thanks to the quick response from local brigades, the immediate threat was swiftly reduced.

Saturday 10th January has been declared a statewide TOTAL FIRE BAN from 12:01am until 11:59pm.

Please continue to monitor the changing conditions.
