Korumburra Fire Brigade Welcome to the Korumburra Volunteer Fire Brigade page. Korumburra Fire Brigade was first registered back in January 1899.

Korumburra has 30 men and women who service the community and surrounds 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It has been on the current site in Mine Road, since 1963. Yesterday, five of our members had the pleasure of attending the FEM - Fire Equipment Maintenance 80th Birthday Celebration in Bendigo.

It was a fantastic afternoon at the All Seasons Function Centre, joined by CFA members from all across Victoria to celebrate 80 years of service, dedication and commitment to fire safety — all while enjoying some great food and even better company!

A huge thank you to all our local businesses for trusting us to maintain your fire safety equipment. Your ongoing support allows us to be part of this important industry and contribute to keeping our local community safe.

Q7: Which community groups, organisations or members of our community do you think our brigade should engage with more?

Q8: How would you like to see our brigade increase its engagement with the community?

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts. We received some great feedback, including suggestions to connect more with:

🏉 Local sporting clubs, including football, netball and cricket clubs
🏫 Schools and young people to help encourage future volunteers
👵 Elderly members of our community
🤝 Service clubs and community organisations
🏥 Local businesses & organisations for training opportunities and familiarisation visits
🚑 Other emergency services and community partners
🌱 Community groups such as Landcare and local networks

We also heard that many people value the work our members already do by attending community events, visiting schools, supporting local celebrations and being there for our community when they need us most.

We would love to hear from more groups, organisations or community members who would like to connect with us.

Early this morning, our members supported Leongatha Fire Brigade, Ruby Fire Brigade , Leongatha South Fire Brigade and Koonwarra brigade at a caravan and shed fire in Leongatha.

The shed and caravan were fully involved when crews arrived, but through great teamwork, communication and coordination, all crews worked together to bring the fire under control and ultimately extinguish it.

Q6: Have you ever considered becoming a volunteer with our brigade or your local CFA brigade? If not, is there a particular reason why?

Our brigade is made up of people from all walks of life — different ages, jobs, skills and experiences — all coming together with one common goal: helping protect and support our community.

Maybe you’ve thought about volunteering but haven’t taken the next step. We’d love to know what has stopped you, or what questions you might have. Whether it’s time commitments, not knowing what’s involved, or simply not being sure if it’s for you — we’d love the opportunity to chat.

Volunteering with CFA isn’t just about responding to emergencies. It’s about learning new skills, meeting great people, supporting your community and being part of a team.

Q5: Are you familiar with the different vehicles in our brigade and the purpose of each?

Our brigade currently operates three emergency response vehicles, with each one playing a vital role in protecting our community.

🔥 Korumburra Pumper
Our pumper is 17 years old and is our primary appliance for all in-town emergency responses. It is specifically designed for structural firefighting and has the ability to pump water directly from fire hydrants through the truck and onto the fire. According to CFA statistics, our pumper has a 49% utilisation rate and has attended 26 incidents this year.

🌿 Korumburra Tanker
Our tanker is 8 years old and is a 4x4, 4,000-litre firefighting appliance. It is the first appliance to respond to out-of-town incidents, including grass fires, bushfires and other rural emergencies. It also responds on strike teams across Victoria and is regularly used for community displays and events such as the Korumburra Show, Careers Expo and brigade training exercises. The tanker is our busiest appliance, with a 58% utilisation rate and 31 incidents attended this year.

🚗 Korumburra Support Vehicle
Our support vehicle is 9 years old and plays an important supporting role at emergency incidents. It carries additional equipment and personnel, assists with traffic management, logistics and helps support larger or prolonged incidents. According to CFA statistics, it has a 32% utilisation rate and attended 17 incidents this year.

While each vehicle has a different purpose, together they ensure our brigade can respond to a wide variety of emergencies, both locally and across Victoria.

According to CFA statistics for this calendar year, the least common incident type within our brigade's primary turnout area is service calls. These incidents most commonly involve assisting other emergency services by gaining entry to premises or assisting with the extrication of a patient. This is followed closely by hazardous conditions, which include incidents such as oil or fuel spills, fallen power lines, damaged or exposed gas lines, and other situations that present a risk to public safety.

Q3: What type of incident do you think our brigade responds to most often?

According to CFA statistics for this calendar year, the most common incident type within our brigade's primary turnout area is motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) and rescue incidents.
However, when our responses across both our primary turnout area and the surrounding areas we support are considered, fire-related incidents make up the majority of our operational workload. These include grass and scrub fires, vehicle fires, structure fires, and other fire-related emergencies.

As shown in the maps below, our brigade responds to incidents across a broad geographic area, extending well beyond our primary turnout boundary. The distribution of incidents demonstrates our operational role in supporting neighboring brigades.
