Yesterday, members from Kurnell RFS attended a 20 hectare hazard reduction burn at Still Creek North, Illawong. For some of our members it was their introduction into what we do to assist with reducing bushfire risk to our community. With a low intensity burn which was conducted over a 12hour period, our young members did an awesome job stepping up & completing the burn safely & effectively. Job well done guys! 🔥🚒

Last Sunday we had a joint training session with Loftus Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and Sandy Point RFS brigade working on our bushfire and structural skills.

Smoke from a bush fire burning between Nelson Bay and Bulahdelah is expected to be pushed by north easterly winds overnight into the Central Coast and Greater Sydney. Smoke is expected to clear as the day warms up and the winds strengthen. Please remember to only call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency or if you see an unattended fire.

If you're staying home this long weekend, spend a few minutes to check that your home is bushfire ready. Clear the gutters, keep shrubs tidy, mow the lawns, clear the yard of junk and remove any flammable materials that don't need to be there. It's a good time to check your smoke alarms too while you're at it! 🔥

If you have a Sydney Water hydrant in your front yard, please check that it is clear of grass & accessible so we can easily locate it in an emergency.🚒

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 10 January, for Greater Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Far South Coast, Greater Hunter, Monaro Alpine, Southern and Central Ranges and the Southern Slopes. Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across much of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎄 ✨️ and we will be guiding Santa 🎅 on his horse and cart through the streets of Kurnell. Keep a look out for our trucks 🚒 and listen for the bell from 3pm on Christmas eve . We can't wait to see you all
