Kurrajong RFB stands with Grose Wold RFB during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences to the Grose Wold Brigade, the local community, and most importantly, the Killen family on the loss of Sean Killen.

Sean was a highly respected member of the community, a former Captain of Grose Wold RFB, and a man who held a profound knowledge of the local area.

Vale Sean. You will be greatly missed.

It is with the deepest regret and sadness that the family of Sean Killen has asked us to pass on that Sean has passed away on Wednesday 20th May from his illness.

We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to the Killen family.

Sean and his family have been long-term members of Grose Wold Brigade and is well respected in the community. Sean was the captain of Grose Wold Brigade more than once and was the driving force in building the station to what it is today from a single bay shed and has left a legacy that will be hard to follow.

Sean will be missed by many people however please give family space and time to come to terms and deal with Sean’s loss.

Funeral arrangements are as follows

174A Grose Wold Rd, Grose Wold

Tuesday 2nd June 2026 11:00 am

Sean requested personally that no RFS uniforms be worn just come in bright colours and celebrate his life.

If you’ve driven through the village over the last few weeks, you may have noticed a new addition to the external wall of our shed!

Over the last few weeks we’ve been busy setting up materials and getting it ready to serve the community. At the moment it shows a live status of the Fire Danger Rating, if there’s a Total Fire Ban or not, and the weather along with important community safety information and information about the Brigade!

We will be keeping it updated and making changes, so keep your eyes peeled!

Are you planning to light a pile burn on your property? You need to notify!

Not only do you need to notify the RFS (yes, even outside of the Bush Fire Danger Period), but you need to notify Council and your Neighbours at least 24 hours prior to lighting up. Be sure to read the attached resources for how to conduct your burn correctly.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

This morning, members from Kurrajong RFB attended the ANZAC Dawn Service at the Kurrajong Memorial Reserve. It was great to see soo many people attend the Service! Thank you.

Do you know what this photo is? It does have something to do with the cooler weather that’s around.

It’s the inside of a chimney! The flakey texture? This is called “creosote”, and there’s a massive buildup of it in this chimney!

Chimney fires are one of the most frequently occurring fires we attend to during the lead up to, and during winter. And they can end in catastrophic damage or destruction to your home.

If you’ve got a combustion fireplace that gets a workout, make sure you get the chimney cleaned every year.

At approximately 14:20 this afternoon, Kurrajong Brigade was paged to a motor vehicle accident involving a single vehicle and a power pole near McMahons Road on Comleroy Road. We provided fire protection on scene with Blaxland Ridge RFB while SES and Ambulance worked on extrication of the occupant of the vehicle.

It’s a timely reminder to be vigilant on the roads, take it easy when it’s wet and drive to the conditions.

This isn’t how we want to meet you.
