Electric blankets, heaters and appliances are common in winter, but they need to be used safely.

Before using an electric blanket:

✅ Check for damage
✅ Do not fold it while in use
✅ Turn it off before going to sleep
✅ Keep cords clear and undamaged
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions

Also remember: outdoor cooking and heating equipment must never be used inside the home. This includes BBQs, charcoal burners and outdoor gas heaters.

Stay warm, but stay safe.

Unattended cooking is the leading cause of house fires in NSW

Most kitchen fires start the same way — someone walks away “just for a minute.”

If you need to leave the kitchen:
✅ Turn the stove off
✅ Move tea towels and items away from heat
✅ Keep an eye on what’s cooking at all times

A hot pan only takes moments to start a fire.

Cold dinner beats a house fire every time 👨‍🚒

Be fire safe this winter

A fire can spread rapidly and be devastating, even fatal. In under 3 minutes, toxic smoke and flames spreading through your home will put you and your loved ones at serious risk.

A smoke alarm that doesn't work is just a plastic disc on the ceiling.

Test yours every month. If it doesn't beep, replace the battery. If it's older than 10 years, replace the alarm.

Did you see it? ☄️

Reports of a bright flash over Sydney last night, possibly a meteor lighting up the sky for just a few seconds. About the same amount of time it takes to test your smoke alarm.

Thank you to everyone that came to our open day. It's great to see so many people interested to see what we have and do.

Thank you NSW RFS - Benwerrin Brigade Cessnock District Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue NSW for teaming up and helping us show the public what we're all about across all three organisations. 👨‍🚒 🚒

Thank you to The Roaming Kookaburra for setting up with us today and supporting the community.

Together we made it a great show and we hope to have your support next year for our open day 🔥

Shout out to FRNSW MN3 Zone Commander Jarrod King for joining us and sharing some skills on the hose.

We hope the community enjoyed getting to know us, what we do and know more about fire safety in thier homes.

We'll be back even bigger and better next year, and we hope to see you there!
