Kyneton Fire Brigade (CFA)

Kyneton Fire Brigade (CFA) The brigade responds to a large range of emergencies from House fires & Wildfires to Motor Vehicle Accidents and Hazmat Incidents.

Classified as a Structure/Wildfire Brigade, Kyneton Fire Brigade is the result of the voluntary amalgamation of the former Kyneton Rural and Urban Fire Brigades. It responds to urban incidents in the town and surrounding areas, including houses, shops, factories, special risks such as hospital, aged care facilities, schools and sporting complexes. It also serves a significant rural and rural resid

ential area and a substantial length of freeway and major roads. KFB is supported in these roles by neighbouring brigades at Malmsbury, Tylden, Langley, Spring Hill and Carlsruhe, and also supports them in their areas. The brigade is active in providing crews & appliances to local and statewide strike teams in times of need. Various members have qualifications and experience including bushfire firefighting, structure firefighting, management of Hazmat (hazardous materials) incidents and other facets of rural and urban emergency response. A number of members have qualifications and endorsements enabling them to contribute to Incident Management Teams at Incident Control Centres, and to contribute to training other CFA volunteers. Members meet for brigade business monthly on the first Monday and train for skills maintenance and improvement on the remaining Mondays. Members are actively involved in acquisition of new skills and qualifications at CFA courses and at CFA training grounds at Huntly and Fiskville throughout the year. The brigade has a busy calendar of Community Safety and engagement activities and regularly participates in community events. A particular feature of KFB is its youth development programme - Junior Fire Brigade. Its operational members also include a high proportion of younger members between 16 and mid-twenties, as well as members of more mature years. KFB is a long-standing participant in the CFA Championship programmes at Junior and Senior levels and performs creditably every year, including good placings and wins in the running and discipline competitions.

๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE RESTRICTIONS LIFTED ๐Ÿ”ฅ

From 1:00am Tuesday (Easter Tuesday), the Fire Danger Period has officially ended across the Macedon Ranges.

This is a positive step for our community.
You can now return to many normal activities involving fire.

But local laws still apply โ€” and fires can still escape quickly if not managed properly.

โœ… WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Burn off on your property (conditions apply)
- Use fire pits, campfires, pizza ovens and solid fuel BBQs
- Undertake planned clean-up burns with the right preparation

โŒ WHAT YOU CANโ€™T DO
Burn off without following the Macedon Ranges Shire local laws
- Leave any fire unattended at any time
- Light fires in conditions where they may spread (wind, dry fuels, poor preparation)

๐Ÿ“ MACEDON RANGES LOCAL LAW โ€“ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Permits may still be required depending on:
- Property size
- What you are burning
- Your location
- If your property is less than 2,000 square metres, burning in the open air is prohibited.

You must:
- Have water or suppression equipment ready
- Stay with the fire at all times
- Fully extinguish the fire before leaving

These rules apply all year โ€” not just during summer.

Last week we were incredibly grateful to receive a donation raised by our local community following the events of 9 January.

The funds were raised during a live music event hosted by Shamrock Hotel, with a charity auction on the night featuring donated items including accommodation, food packages, artwork, merchandise, and a signed guitar.

A huge thank you to Hayley and the team at the Shamrock for driving this effort, and to everyone who contributed on the night.

We also acknowledge Reece Mastin for his support and involvement โ€” backing local communities when it matters.

This kind of support directly strengthens our brigade and helps us continue to respond when our community needs us most.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The team at the Shamrock Hotel in Kyneton are continuing to host live events โ€” keep an eye out and get along to support local.

Kyneton Junior Fire Brigade โ€” State result ๐Ÿš’

Huge effort from our Under 14s at the 2026 CFA VFBV State Urban Junior Championships in Stawell, taking 1st place in two events against strong competition from across Victoria.

Event 7 โ€“ Wet Hose Striking (First & Second Discs, Four Competitors โ€“ U14)
1st โ€“ Kyneton (John Pearce, Bonnie Tracey, Riley Sanders, borrowed competitor) โ€“ 23.01 seconds

Event 11 โ€“ Wet Hose (Two Competitors โ€“ U14)
1st โ€“ Kyneton (John Pearce, Bonnie Tracey) โ€“ 12.28 seconds

Two events. Two wins.

Coach Brett Magrath said it plainly:
โ€œVery happy team. These kids just keep surprising us with what they can achieve. Today they proved to themselves what we already knew they could do.โ€

You could see it in the run. Clean ex*****on, strong handovers, and a team that backed each other the whole way through. No hesitation. No overthinking. Just doing the job they trained for.

This is what the junior program builds. Skills under pressure. Trust in the team. Confidence to step up when it counts.

These results donโ€™t happen by chance. They come from turning up to training, listening, learning, and committing to the team.

Have a look at the photo โ€” that moment captures it. Effort turning into outcome.

Proud brigade. Proud community.

- Volunteers will staff the station all day.
- 90-second turnout times are in place for rapid response to all calls theoughout the heightened period
- Crews are ready to support the community if fires start locally or ger called to orher areas of the state.

Tuesdays Fire Conditions - in plain terms

- Fires will be uncontrollable.
- Depending on workload, the brigade may not be able to attend all calls for help.
- Homes are not designed to withstand these conditions.
- Survival depends on leaving early, well before fire impacts.

What we ask of the community
- Act early. Do not wait for smoke or flames.
- Review your bushfire plan tonight.
- Decide where you will go and how you will get there.
- Check on neighbours who may need support to leave early.
- Avoid all activities that could start a fire.

Coliban Group & Kyneton Fire Ready Meeting โ€“ Community Video

We recorded the Fire Ready Meeting held at Kyneton Bushland Resort on Thursday, 29 January 2026, so more people in our community can watch and learn.

The meeting talked about fires that have happened in and around our area. We discussed how fires can spread quickly, how smoke and road closures affect people, and how little time there can be to make decisions.

We also explained simple fire plans that work in real situations. This included when leaving early is safer, when staying becomes dangerous, and how power outages and poor visibility can affect safety.

Emergency warnings were explained in clear terms. We covered what โ€œWatch and Actโ€ and โ€œEmergency Warningโ€ mean, and why alerts can change quickly on hot, windy, or stormy days.

This information is important now. It is mid-summer. Fuels are dry. Fire conditions can change fast.

If you live, work, or travel in Kyneton, Malmsbury, Tylden, Pastoria, or nearby bushland areas, please watch the video.

After watching, check your fire plan. Talk about it with your family or household. Make sure everyone knows how you will receive emergency warnings.

Ask yourself: if a fire starts on a hot, windy day, what will you do first? Do you know when you will leave?

Being prepared helps people make safer decisions.
