We would like to give a friendly reminder that even though the bushfire danger period will end at midnight tonight (31st March) , you are still required to notify your intention to burn to the Rural Fire Service. Follow the link below or call 02 6626 6922.

This is not a new rule, but with more people moving into rural areas, it is important for everyone to follow the rules.
If your fire is reported to 000 and you've failed to notify the RFS, significant fines can be issued.

Notifying all adjoining neighbours (including those directly across a road or creek) at least 24 hours prior to lighting, is still a requirement, regardless of the time of year.

Volunteers do not want to attend if you do not require help, so we ask you to take a few minutes to notify your intention.

Notify 24/7 in just a few minutes.

Thanks Casino Rural Fire Brigade for letting us use your post 😜

FLOOD RESCUE - FRIDAY 4.10am - KYOGLE

Following a number of flood rescues across the northern part of our region, we are again urging the community to heed this simple but critical message.

IF ITS FLOODED, FORGET IT !!!!

This morning Kyogle Flood Rescue members were activated after a vehicle was swept into floodwaters at Collins Creek. Thankfully, the occupant was able to self-extricate and cling to trees in the middle of the creek, quite some distance down the river.

SES crews conducted a successful boat rescue, and the person was treated for exposure and shock.

Floodwater is unpredictable, fast-moving, and far more powerful than it appears. It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry away a vehicle.

Our crews remain ready to respond — but the safest rescue is the one that never has to happen.

If it’s flooded, forget it.

Over the past month, Kyogle HQ and Woodenbong Rural Fire Brigade have been training new members to join our two brigades.

Today, these 5 members have completed and passed their firefighter courses and are now equipped with the skills and confidence to join our experienced firefighters in responding to a wide range of emergencies in the community.

We are very happy to welcome 2 new members to Kyogle HQ and 3 new members to Woodenbong.

It’s always great to have new members volunteer their time to give back to the community.

Firefighters from the , NPWS and Foresty Corp are currently working to contain several large fires burning in the Clarence Valley and Richmond Valley areas. The Hicks Rd Fire and Bennetts Rd Fire are burning in remote terrain, 40km southwest of Casino.

Crews supported by aircraft and heavy machinery are conducting backburning operations to strengthen containment lines, ahead of deteriorating conditions forecast for later in the week. While there is no threat to properties, smoke haze can be seen around the region.

The below image is a thermal linescan showing the current fire spread. These fires are burning within areas that were affected during the 2019/2020 season.

When conducting a hazard reduction or burning off on your land, remember to notify all your neighbours 24 hours (at least) before you light, and notify the NSW RFS.

It's easy to do, too - just go to http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or if you're in the Lismore, Kyogle, or Richmond Valley LGAs you can phone 02 6626 6922. If you're in other areas you'll need to notify the RFS online or phone your local Fire Control Centre.

The sun's out and parts of the Northern Rivers are drying out, especially parts that get good sunshine all day.
