So proud of this amazing lady, Avis, who gives so much of herself to others especially her community. Alongside her, Phil continues to be a tremendous supporter, playing a huge role in fundraising efforts and standing proudly beside Avis every step of the way.

Today, we honour our wonderful Avis and congratulate her on this most prestigious and incredibly well-deserved recognition.

On this Anzac Day, we pause to honour and remember the brave souls who gave their lives in service of our country. We pay our deepest respects to all past and present service men and women, and the animals who stood beside them each one showing courage, loyalty, and sacrifice in the face of unimaginable .

They served in times of hardship and conflict so that we may live with freedom, dignity, and peace in the country we hold so dear. Their legacy is not only in history books, but in the values we carry forward every day.

Today, we stand united in gratitude.
We thank them.
We honour them.
We remember them.

Lest we forget

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

As a community, we proudly came together to support the Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal, raising vital funds for children and families facing some of the most challenging times of their lives.
The unfortunate reality is that many children will require the expertise, care, and compassion of the incredible medical teams at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. Every dollar raised will go towards life-saving care, equipment, and innovation helping pave the way for a brighter future, where these children can grow, thrive, and live the lives they deserve.

Today, our community showed what it truly means to stand together. Despite the uncertainties of the world, the pressures of rising living costs, and the challenges many are currently facing, people still dug deep. In true Australian spirit, we united to give our young people the very best chance at life.

In our small but mighty community of Lake Tyers Beach, the generosity was incredible:
Tin rattling efforts raised $3,480
A fantastic night at the Lake Tyers Tavern saw raffle and donation contributions of $3,000
This brought Lake Tyers Beach’s total to an outstanding $6,480.40.
Combined with the efforts of the Lakes Entrance / Toorloo Fire Brigade and surrounding community, we are incredibly proud to have raised a staggering $33,133.00. *************************************
***UPDATE**** latest tally today (Saturday) Lakes Entrance/ Lake Tyers Beach raised is $42,437.09 👏👏👏👏👏👏😃👍
This is truly something to celebrate.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, organised, or simply gave what they could thank you. Your kindness, generosity, and community spirit are nothing short of inspiring.
What an absolutely stunning effort by a truly beautiful community.

Thank you for your kindness.

GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL – TOORLOO FIRE BRIGADE 🐰🚒

This Friday from 10:00am, our Toorloo Fire Brigade members and amazing community volunteers will be out and about across Lake Tyers for the Good Friday Appeal Collection.

You might hear a few sirens, see some red and blue lights flashing, and of course the sound of tins rattling as we make our way through the community.

Keep an eye out for our trucks, we may even have some treats from the Easter Bunny! 🍫

Our team will be knocking on doors and ringing doorbells, kindly asking if you’re able to make a donation to support this incredible cause. Every contribution, big or small, helps make a real difference.

💛 Let’s come together as a community and support something truly special.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and ongoing support.

🚨 Fire Danger Period Ending – Stay Vigilant 🚨

The Fire Danger Period will officially come to an end on Tuesday 7 April.

It’s been a long and challenging fire season for our community, and while we are now heading into autumn, fire risk remains. Several areas are still dry, and conditions can continue to support fast-moving grassfires, even in cooler weather.

CFA State Agency Commander Garry Cook has advised that the easing of restrictions is due to a number of favourable factors:
• Cooler nights and morning dew helping reduce fire risk
• Recent rainfall
• New vegetation growth increasing moisture levels

While these are positive signs, this does not mean the risk is gone.

🔥 If you are planning a burn-off:
As restrictions begin to lift, CFA urges everyone to take extra care and ensure conditions are safe before lighting any fire.

✔️ Always register your burn-off
✔️ Check weather conditions, especially wind
✔️ Ensure you have enough water and equipment on hand
✔️ Never leave a burn-off unattended
✔️ Stay until the fire is fully extinguished

To prevent unnecessary emergency callouts, all burn-offs must be registered:
📞 1800 668 511

Please also notify your neighbours, particularly those who may be sensitive to smoke.

🚗 Travelling?
Fire restrictions may still be in place in other parts of Victoria. Always check local conditions before you travel.

⚠️ If your burn-off gets out of control, call 000 immediately.

Let’s continue to look out for each other and keep our community safe.

Toorloo Fire Brigade – 2026 Brigade Elections
Toorloo Fire Brigade held its annual brigade elections last night, resulting in a new Brigade Management Team (BMT) for the upcoming term. In keeping with our commitment to succession planning, it was truly humbling to see the brigade come together to support and elect the next group of leaders who will continue guiding our brigade into the future.
We are confident that our new team will continue the strong tradition of Toorloo Fire Brigade turning up for our community and remaining the power-packed little brigade we have always been. Most importantly, we celebrate and acknowledge our volunteers for their ongoing commitment, knowledge and skill that keep our brigade strong.
We would also like to sincerely thank our outgoing Brigade Management Team for the hard work, dedication and community service they have provided over the past term. Your contribution has helped shape the brigade we are today, and we look forward to continuing to share that knowledge and experience as we mentor our new BMT and continue serving our community, district and the wider Tambo Group.
A special thank you to Commander Don Tomkins for attending as our CFA representative, and to Steph Beattie for acting as adjudicator and for always being such a valued and supportive member of our CFA family.
We would also like to acknowledge our neighbouring brigades across the Tambo Group, who continue to support us in the most collaborative and encouraging way. We are very fortunate to be part of such a strong and connected group.
We would also like to acknowledge and thank the families of our brigade members. Your support means everything. You are the ones who watch your loved ones leave at all hours of the day and night in the middle of dinner, during family time, and even on holidays to answer the call to protect our community. Without your understanding, patience and unwavering support, the work we do would not be possible. The new Toorloo Fire Brigade Management Team is:
🚒 Captain: Mel Zagami
🚒 1st Lieutenant: Dino Zagami
🚒 2nd Lieutenant: Brett Stewart
🚒 3rd Lieutenant: Sam Ditchburn
🚒 4th Lieutenant: Tony Robinson
🚒 5th Lieutenant: Mandy Walker

• Treasurer: Avis Salisbury
• Secretary: Brett Stewart

International Women’s Day – 8 March 2026

Today we proudly celebrate the incredible women who have shaped, supported and strengthened the Toorloo Brigade and the wider CFA family, past and present, operational and non-operational.

This year’s “Give to Gain” message perfectly reflects the women in our brigade. Every day you give your time, compassion, leadership and skills, and because of that, our brigade and our community gain so much.

We proudly recognise our operational members, Captain Mel Zagami and Mandy Walker, who stand shoulder to shoulder with their crews, responding when it matters most. Your leadership, commitment and resilience are inspiring, and you demonstrate every day the strength that comes from teamwork, preparation and trust.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the incredible women who support the brigade behind the scenes Linda Lee, Avis Salisbury, Heather Richardson and Jo Roirdan. Your dedication through administration, organisation and countless unseen tasks keeps our brigade running smoothly and successfully. Your work truly matters and is deeply appreciated.

We also honour those who came before us. Life Members May Beveridge and Margaret Campbell helped pave the way with their commitment to community, leaving a legacy of service and spirit that continues to inspire us today.

To every woman who supports, encourages, organises, listens, advocates and leads within our brigade and community your impact reaches far beyond any single role. You are the heart, strength and steady presence that keeps everything moving forward.

Today we celebrate you, and we thank you for everything you give because our brigade gains so much because of you.

If you’ve ever thought about joining the Toorloo Brigade, whether operationally or in a support role, know that there is a place for you here a place to contribute, to belong and to grow.

Happy International Women’s Day to the amazing women of our brigade and the wider community. 💛🔥
