Factory Fire Milperra 21/12/23 D Platoon

This afternoon Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to reports of a Factory Fire in Woorang Street off Milperra Road at Milperra. Crews arrived to find a large timber business (pallet factory) heavily involved in fire, with numerous explosions occurring and flames being driven by strong winds throughout the premises and into neighbouring buildings.

Despite the intense conditions, firefighters in breathing apparatus mounted an attack to hold the fire. Crews placed themselves with protective streams between the fire and the factories either side of the timber yard, as further firefighters used power saws and forcible entry tools to cut and break their way into adjoining businesses.

As further crews arrived and a water relay was established, firefighters used aerial appliances with master streams to control the fire from above. The highly flammable timber caused the fire to burn with extreme intensity for several hours, as firefighters battled to keep it contained.

Firefighters managed to successfully contain the fire and save the neighbouring factories on all three sides of the fire, as well as the adjacent car yard. Crews remain on scene into the night continuing to extinguish the fire with aerial appliances as the fire continues to burn in the rubble of the factory.

Our thoughts are with the family and crew 🖤

It is with great sadness we learned of the death of one of our firefighters at a house fire at Grose Vale, north-west of Sydney, this morning.

The firefighter was among the first crews responding to the house, which became engulfed in flames, on Grose Vale Road just before 8am.

Our thoughts are with family, friends and colleagues at this tragic time.

Our hearts are with our Queensland Firefighters today ❤️

It is with heavy hearts we can confirm a Fire and Rescue Service firefighter has passed away overnight following a factory fire at Slacks Creek early yesterday morning.

Izabella Nash joined the Fire and Rescue Service in 2014 and served as a First Class Firefighter.

A second firefighter, Lia Drew, who is a Senior Firefighter, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The thoughts of all QFES members are with Izzy’s and Lia’s families, friends and fellow crew members.
