Heaters need space. A lot of it.

Keep curtains, bedding, lounges, throws and drying racks at least one metre away.

Switch them off before you leave the room or go to bed. Never use outdoor heaters indoors.

A smoke alarm that doesn’t work is just a plastic disc on the ceiling. Test yours every month. If it doesn’t beep, replace the battery. If it’s older than 10 years, replace the alarm.

🚒🔥 Weekend Review 🔥🚒

It was a busy weekend for the crews at 357 Lambton, with a total of 21 incidents attended across our three appliances.

Some notable incidents included:

🔥 1:44 pm, Saturday 11 July 2026
RP357, P357B and TR357 responded to a Third Alarm Structure Fire on King Street, alongside a further eight fire appliances. Crews worked quickly to contain and extinguish the fire. One unit sustained significant fire damage, while several other levels were affected by smoke.

🚒 12:26 pm, Sunday 12 July 2026
RP357 and TR357 responded to Cliff Track, Dudley, following reports of a teenager who had fallen from a cliff. Crews successfully rescued the teenager and assisted a further eight people from the location.

🔥 5:10 pm, Sunday 12 July 2026
RP357, TR357 and P357B responded to GrainCorp, Carrington, for a Second Alarm fire involving a silo. Firefighters from across the Newcastle area were rotated through the incident, with fire duty continuing for up to 48 hours after the fire was first reported.

These were just some of the major incidents attended over the weekend. In addition, our crews responded to numerous fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents, and requests for assistance from other emergency services.

🚒🔥 House Fire 🔥🚒 - Andrew Close, North Lambton

At about 3:25 pm on Monday, 25th May 2026, crews from 357 Lambton and 462 Mayfield West responded to a house fire on Andrew Close, North Lambton.

Upon arrival, crews located a single-storey house with smoke issuing from the roof. Crews made entry and extinguished the fire, which was located in the kitchen.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen. However, the house suffered smoke and water damage.

Newcastle City Police District are commencing investigations into the fire.

Did you know the leading cause of home fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended. Never leave cooking unattended. Stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove before you leave.

🔥🚒 Structure Fire 3rd Alarm 🚒🔥

Just before 3:30 pm on Monday, 18 May 2026, crews from 357 Lambton were responded to a building fire on Denison Street, Mayfield. While en route, the incident was upgraded to a Third Alarm Structure Fire.

Once on scene, crews were tasked with protecting adjoining buildings at the side and rear of the location.

Crews from Lambton remained on scene until the early hours of Tuesday morning before returning in the afternoon to extinguish hot spots.

Newcastle City Police District has commenced investigations into the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation. Structural assessments and demolition plans for the building are underway.

🔥Building Fire🔥 – Alma Road, New Lambton

About 2:20am on Monday, 18th May 2026, crews from Lambton Fire Station and Newcastle Fire Station responded to an address on Alma Road, New Lambton, after reports of smoke issuing from a business.

Upon arrival, crews located a business with smoke coming from the roof and roller door. Firefighters used a power saw to gain entry before locating a small electrical fire and extinguishing it. The premises suffered smoke and water damage.

Alma Road was closed for a period of time while firefighters carried out operations.

This serves as a timely reminder to ensure power boards are not overloaded, and that electrical devices are only charged when they can be monitored.

On Saturday afternoon, crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 357 Lambton and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 462 Mayfield West alongside Police and Ambulance services responded to a reported house fire at Waratah West. The fire involved a single-car garage and carport, both of which were completely destroyed. Neighbouring properties also sustained damage from radiant heat exposure.
Thankfully, all occupants had safely self-evacuated and were accounted for upon the arrival of emergency services. Firefighters were able to successfully contain the fire to the affected structure.

During firefighting operations, the street water main being utilised by Fire and Rescue NSW sustained damage, requiring assistance from Hunter Water.

Early Friday morning, crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 357 Lambton and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 376 Merewether, alongside Police and Ambulance services, responded to a single-vehicle crash into a home in Merewether. Thankfully, neither the driver nor the occupants of the house were injured, and the property sustained only minor damage

Emergency services were this morning called to Allworth Street in Merewether around 5am, where they found a car had crashed thought the fence of a home.

The 37-year-old driver escaped without serious injuries and allegedly returned a negative result to roadside testing.
