Australia welcomes president of the genocidal apartheid state

21/01/2026

Invasion Day is fast approaching. It's time to show up alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities who have stewarded and cared for these lands we call home for generations, surviving and maintaining culture in the face of genocide and colonisation.

If you're in the North, head to Limilinaturi for the Invasion Day rally and show your support.

Palestinian Dabka workshop in Launceston - get along to it if you can. This will book out fast we are sure of it.

There's also a great workshop with Feras Shaheen for those with dance experience and a pertinent discussion on the response of the Arts sector to Palestine, censorship and politics.

Amazing work Assembly 197.

Sharing this reflection from Peter this week - one of the many who show up weekly to stand with Palestine, and for justice.

"The world feels very hard right now. Around the globe and close to home there are so many shocking examples of injustice, persecution, and oppression that it can feel overwhelming. We risk sliding into despair. At such times it can be tempting to look away, to ignore the suffering of others while searching for some peace for ourselves.

But the antidote to despair is not ignorance, or apathy, it is action. When we see injustice in the world around us and we choose not to turn away but to stand up and speak out, then we become part of a global movement of people calling for change. For peace. For freedom. This standing together, this solidarity, is a source of strength and hope. It reflects the belief that a different, better, world is possible if we choose to work towards it.

The ongoing genocide in Gaza and the oppression of the Palestinian people is one of the horrors unfolding in front of our eyes. We cannot let it slip from our consciousness or turn our eyes away. Free Free Palestine!"

Great to see such a positive response from the Launceston community to this action this week.

Friends in Launceston took the opportunity, on the first day of 2026, to remind people that opposition to the genocide in Gaza is not antisemitism. That, like the majority of peace-loving Australians, they stand against racism and discrimination, they stand against oppression and hate, and they advocate for a world where all are free to live in peace and security.

For all of us, it is so important that we push back against the reactionary forces trying to stifle free speech and remove our right to protest against oppression and injustice – wherever we see it happening. We must not allow the tragedy on Bondi to divide us.

Instead, we must continue to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people, while also making it clear that racism, injustice and oppression is unacceptable anywhere. Our common humanity must unite us in seeing that the lives of innocent people in Gaza are just as valuable and precious as those of any others in our global community. We cannot allow our empathy and our compassion to become ‘selective’ — reserved for some and not for others.

As we move forward into the new year we all commit to continuing to stand up and speak out for Palestine.

Free, Free Palestine!

After discussions with activist groups, APAN and members of the community who support the weekly Honk events - and reflecting on recent events - organisers of the weekly Honk have collectively decided not to go ahead with the action this Saturday 19th of December.

We all continue to share the deep grief and frustration with how tens of thousands of deaths in Gaza are being ignored, and how some politicians and media outlets are placing the responsibility for growing antisemitism at the feet of the Palestinian solidarity movement. Our collective has always had a zero-tolerance stance on all forms of racism - including antisemitism, anti-Palestinian racism and islamophobia.

We also appreciate that this is a really difficult time for members of the Jewish community, and other faith and cultural groups (particularly those who face backlash and scapegoating as a result of this week's events) and we want to keep our supporters and the members of the broader community safe and well.

We will monitor the situation and consult with the wider community and update here when actions recommence.

We call once again for unity and support to those community members most directly affected by the horrific events in Bondi this week and call on all of you to look after one another in these challenging times.

EDIT: We are open to genuine discussion and questions, but we will not tolerate comments that promote hate speech on our page. Abusive comments will be hidden or you will be blocked.

Condolences to all affected by the heinous violence in the Bondi community. Everyone deserves to feel safe in this country. We stand against hatred and violence. We urge in this tragic and difficult moment, for our communities to come together, and not meet violence and hatred with more hatred. There are people in our own community who will be feeling more unsafe than ever right now. Let's all look after one another.

APAN is devastated and angered by the mass shooting aimed at a Jewish community Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach tonight. We send our love, care and solidarity to all of those who were killed and injured and all who are affected by this violence. This attack is a cause of deep pain for us all.

We are living in profoundly violent times. We can only counter this by coming together at every opportunity: everyone, here and elsewhere around the world, must be able to live free from harm and fear.

In moments like this, it is critical that communities are supported with care, compassion, and access to the resources they need to recover and heal. And society at large must not respond with speculation, vilification, blame and hate.

APAN extends its solidarity to all those impacted. We send love to the Jewish community. And we call for a collective commitment to rejecting violence and fostering a society and a world grounded in dignity, safety, and care for one another.
