Community Engagement Team leader course
Today Caz and Daz are in Port Macquarie studying a course to enhance our community engagement leadership skills.
On average our unit participants in over 14 community events each year.
Our next activity will be a youth internship program on 30th June for local Distance Education students. It will be the first time this group of students have had the opportunity to do this program in NSW.

Community supporting Community

Today we were blessed to have been in the audience of the Laurieton Voices Choir. This amazing group of singers entertained a packed house at the Laurieton community hall. The audience was treated with 19 amazing songs and a lot from the Seekers catalogue. If you ever get a chance to see this brilliant group you will not be disappointed.

The Choir generously donated funds, which will purchase a big screen for our training room.

We were happy to be invited to sing the last song with them.

Tonight we had 20 volunteers who trained hard in their storm grounds course. We appreciate our trainers Ted and Karl who set up beautifully and all volunteers were actively involved in their learning.

Tonight was yet another wonderful training night with 25 volunteers. Our new flood technicians trained in setting up the Arc Angle , Others worked on their storm grounds course with senior trainers teaching how to use a variety of power and hand tools.

We enjoyed a lovely visit from our Deputy Local Robyn .

Tonight was another great roll up of volunteers. During the day our team completed 3 call outs and we are ready to support the community over the next few days as storms continue.

Tonight Georgina was awarded her certificate for completing the Job ready course. We started our next training course in storm water ground.

What's a Saturday morning without training on our beautiful river.

Boat maintenance and a few exercises on the water .

6 of our recently qualified boat operators and experienced took the boats out to keep current and familiar with our waterways and markers . Checked all onboard equipment and practiced towing and reversing the boats and trailers .

WOW night celebrations at the LUSC.

Last night most of our amazing team celebrated WOW day with a beautiful 2 course sit down dinner at Laurieton United Services Club. Tony Day our Zone Deputy Commander spoke about how talented and skilled our members are. He went on to say our unit "always goes above expectations". Tony also said we are a unit he can rely upon.
Ted was presented with his 10 years long service award while Darren was awarded a national service medal for his work in the 2019 / 20 bushfires. Jarad and Dave were given their certificate for successfully passing the in water flood technician course.
It was wonderful to see Rob Dwyer who commended our unit on their training and work in the field and we reminisced about the 2021 Camden Haven Floods, Rob was Manager of LUSC and we all worked so close together. Rob presented Caz with a lovely scarf .
Caz and Daz gave out some jelly beans/stickers to a few patrons at the Club who support their SES crews.

WOW day in the Camden Haven

Today Staff at Camden Haven High School dressed up in orange to support SES. The school also had an orientation day for students from small local primary schools. Students from Kindergarten to year 4 had a great time looking at one of our trucks. They were given a wonderful colouring book.
We told the students that in high school they may get an opportunity to participate in the SES internship program.

WOW. ( Wear 🍊 Orange Wednesday) Tomorrow

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week alongside Wear Orange Wednesday 2026. 🧡

We are ordinary people with everyday lives in your community who step up when others need help most in extraordinary ways.

Our volunteers are your coworkers, friends, neighbours and family members. They give their time to support their community during storms, floods and emergencies, often when people are at their most vulnerable.

After all, our volunteers are truly from community, for community.
