First step to teaching breast stroke is actually nothing to do with the arms or legs. It’s all to do with the body, because a kid’s gotta be able to push off and glide for at least 5 meters before you even worry about anything else.
The reason that push and glide is so important is because it teaches kids how to sit up in the water before they breaststroke kick.

when we teach breaststroke kick, we only focus on doing one kick and doing it really, really well. We bring the legs up, turn the toes out, and then kick around.
The common problems you can run into when it comes to teaching kids breaststroke is that they try and do it too quickly, or they don’t get their toes turned out. If you’ve got kids that are doing it really quickly and they’re not going anywhere, then get them to pause top.

If you’ve got a kids that are struggling to turn their toes out, do the exact same thing, but the focus is more on where the toes are pointing. And get them to hold the position for at least 2 seconds.
