16 October 2023 is World Food Day 🌏

CORE is an outcome of food policy work undertaken by WACOSS and community sector partners.

During the development of the Food Relief Framework we heard from stakeholders in every region of Western Australia about the need for a solution to redistribute surplus food.

CORE assists business with surplus food items to connect with local charity organisations that provide food relief to people in need.

Working together, we can be the change.

Free corflute signs are now available. Pick up West Leederville, WA.

We have 250 YES corflute signs to give away, for you to display and show your solidarity and support for the Referendum.

There's no need to phone ahead, just drop by the WACOSS office, Level 2, 3 Loftus Street, West Leederville, anytime between 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday.

Tuesday 5 September 2023 is International Day of Charity!

Charity provides real social bonding and contributes to the creation of inclusive and more resilient societies.

The International Day of Charity was established by the United Nations with the objective of raising awareness and mobilizing people, NGOs, and stakeholders to help others.

CORE recognises the invaluable work of charities and aims to strengthen the support charities can provide by increasing available donations.

Don Hancey owns a commercial kitchen in Osborne Park, and he recently provided his kitchen to Homelessness; We Care - Perth Western Australia who used the space to cook their weekly meal service for people in the community experiencing homelessness.

The exchange was a win-win for both parties, as The Kitchen was sharing an unused resource, and Homelessness We Care were able to benefit from that resource, for the purpose of preparing a meal for rough sleepers.

Local Not-For-Profit organisations and charities are providing essential support to individuals and communities during these difficult times.

The team were in Kununurra last month and were able to volunteer at the Community Kitchen. It was fantastic to hear that a donation made available through CORE will be used by the Kitchen to serve fresh meals and cold drinks.

Mutual obligation and participation requirements for people receiving federal income support payments have been paused until 3 February for some parts of flood-affected Western Australia.

During this period, no payment suspensions or financial penalties will apply if for people who are unable to meet their mutual obligation or participation requirements. It is still a requirement to report any income that you and your partner get every 2 weeks, even if it’s $0 to ensure that the Government can pay you the right amount.

Requirements have paused from 6 January 2023 until 3 February 2023 inclusive in the following CDP regions:

✅ CDP Kullarri Region where the CDP provider is Kullarri Regional Communities Indigenous Corporation
✅ CDP Fitzroy Valley Region where the CDP provider is Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation
✅ CDP Derby/Gibb River Region where the CDP provider is Winun Ngari Aboriginal Corporation
