Leeton-Meet Marcus and Charlie.
They both joined us as our new recruits almost 1 year ago. They both have primary employment elsewhere in Leeton and are On-Call with Leeton Fire and Rescue.
We asked them some questions on their journey so far.
Why did you join Fire and Rescue?
Charlie- A member from another station I work with at my primary employment was talking to me about it and sounded like a rewarding career. I applied to see what it all was about.
Marcus- I spoke with a current member of Leeton station and the way he spoke about it and what he enjoyed about it encouraged me to apply.
Has it been what you expected?
Charlie- Yes, I didn't have any expectations coming in. It was a bit of an unknown for me. But I am glad I took the opportunity to apply, it has been really rewarding and fun so far.
Marcus- Yes and somewhat more. I am really enjoying the role, meeting new people and learning new skills.
What is your favourite thing about Fire and Rescue so far?
Charlie- Meeting new people and trying new things. Getting out of your comfort zone and doing something I had never considered a career before.
Marcus- The team work aspect-getting things done as a team, building new friendships and the professionalism we show.
Has becoming an On-Call Fire fighter impacted your every day life in any way?
Charlie- Only in positive ways, I have to be more organised. But I am still able to manage an apprenticeship, sports and a social life. Its a flexible lifestyle.
Marcus- It's given me more responsibility to be more organised with my life and be able to still manage every day responsibilities- kids, work life. You don't know when the next job will come in. So I try to plan ahead more so that I am prepared and ready to respond for the next job. I am still able to do everything I did socially before I joined.
What would you tell someone considering applying for Fire and Rescue?
Charlie- Just do it! What have you got to lose.
Marcus- Just apply- it will be one of the greatest things you will do.
