Legana Fire Brigade Legana Fire Brigade
Volunteer service serving the Legana and surrounding West Tamar communities and backing up to All of Tasmania when needed....

Legana Fire Brigade consists of a group of enthusiastic volunteers who provide the community with a fire protection service. Legana Brigade was formed soon after the devastating
1967 bushfires in Tasmania. Legana Fire Brigade's first piece of equipment was a
tanker trailer, purchased by the then Beaconsfield
Council under a Rural Fires Board subsidy scheme, and
housed at the Brigade Captain's prop

erty. At about this time the Legana area began to change from
an agricultural base community to one of a rural
residential nature with a sub-division at Freshwater
Point. As a result, the Council provided a four-wheel
drive medium tanker which again was housed at the
Brigade Captain's

As Legana' s population grew the existing members felt
that the Fire Commission should provide a more suitable
shed which was built in the early 80's. The members went further however and after much hard work, fund-raising and lobbying they were able to ensure that a meeting room
and office were incorporated into the new station that was
finally opened in 1985. The station was located on the old Freshwater Point Road
but the developments of Grindelwald, Rosevears Danbury
Park and the general expansion of Legana itself lead to
plans being discussed in 1996 for a larger replacement
station in a more central location

It is a wonderful facility for both the local residents and
the Legana brigade members themselves and as the Group
Headquarters for the West Tamar area it has an important
fire protection role to play in the wider Tasmanian
community.

Fire Permit Period is coming to an end for this season.

We do encourage those that are going to conduct any burning activity to ring up and register your burn with TFS on 1800 000 699 or via the Service Tas Portal.

πŸ”₯ The 2025/26 Fire Permit Period will end statewide tomorrow (Thursday, 9 April 2026).

ℹ️ From 2am tomorrow, if you’re considering burning on your property:
🀝 you don’t require a fire permit
🀝 BUT we encourage you to register your burn by calling 1800 000 699. Registering your burn will ensure your local Tasmania Fire Service brigade are aware of your plans and can respond accordingly.

πŸ“ Remember:
➑️ Anyone conducting a burn must be capable of managing the fire and be mindful of changing weather conditions.
➑️ Make sure an adult is always attending the burn until it is fully extinguished.
➑️ Have suitable working firefighting equipment available to appropriately manage fire activity in the event that the fire begins to spread.
➑️ Never light fires in peat, humus, or marram grass.
➑️ Landowners are responsible for any damage caused by fires escaping their land.
➑️ Ensure your neighbours are aware and that your burn won’t adversely affect their health, or farming operations – particularly the wine industry, which is vulnerable to smoke.
➑️ Burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws and environmental laws about smoke emissions.

Daylight savings is ending tonight, so take some time to do some life-saving home maintenance.

While you're turning back your clocks, it's the perfect time to ensure your smoke alarms are in top condition. Take a few minutes to:

βœ… Test your smoke alarms
🧹 Clean them of dust and debris.
πŸ”‹ Replace batteries or install a new smoke alarm if requried.
βœ… Check you have them in all the important places: every bedroom or sleeping area, hallway, living area, above stairways, and garage.

Remember, only working smoke alarms save lives.
Protect your family and your home.
