At our last meeting we were proud to acknowledge the work of Nick Dudley within Rotary with the Presentation of the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. Congratulations Nick, and thank you for your work to serve the community. 28 years as a member of the Leongatha rotary club, president in 2012-13, and service on many committees. Well deserved recognition and congratulations to Nick.

What is Rotary Series.

Previously I have shared some of the smaller things Rotary does, so today I wanted to share a larger perspective.

🌏 **Rotary in Action – Changing Lives Around the World** 💙💛

One of the greatest strengths of Rotary is that while our clubs serve their local communities, together we also create lasting change across the globe.

A wonderful example is this inspiring project by the **Rotary Club of Taveuni Island** in Fiji. Thanks to the generosity of Rotary clubs and individual supporters, they have fulfilled their commitment to build a brand-new school in Dreketi Village on Qamea Island.

The new school is more than just a building—it provides children and teachers with a brighter future through:
🏫 A safe, modern school
☀️ Solar power
🌐 Internet access
💻 Computers
📺 A television for learning

This incredible achievement was made possible through the partnership of Rotary, the It's Time Foundation, Rob Edwards, Steve Whistler, the ALL Women electrical solar team, and the many Rotary clubs and individuals who supported the project.

As Peter and Helene from the Rotary Club of Taveuni Island shared:

*"The children and the teachers have a new school complete with solar power, internet, computers and a TV. All thanks to Rotary and It's Time Foundation."*

This is Rotary at its best—bringing people together across countries, cultures and communities to create opportunities that will benefit generations to come.

We congratulate everyone involved in this remarkable project and thank all those who continue to demonstrate that **Service Above Self** truly changes lives.

The club held its annual changeover dinner on Monday 29th June. Aside from presenting his annual report outgoing President Andrew Debenham had the pleasure of awarding a Paul Harris Fellow award to Jol Dutton. Jol is a past President himself, also a past secretary and the current lead on our Koonwarra Shelter Project. Jol has been a tireless contributor to our club both as a member and prior to joining the club supporting his partner Sue Dutton as a member and past president of the club. Congratulations Jol on becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.

Supporting The Sh*tbox Rally sponsorship night at Koonwarra Hall on Saturday night. Our members enjoyed raffles, great food, live music & more , raising money for Prostate Awareness , & Rods drive in the rally up to Darwin & back.

This evening as a club we had the great pleasure of inducting a new member into our club. We welcome Paul Ashton as a member of the Leongatha Rotary Club. All Rotarians bring a range of business and professional skills to their clubs as part of service to our community. We look forward to Paul joining us in providing service above self.

We at the Space 47 on Monday 4th May for our meeting. After fellowship at the bar members and guests were called to order, took their places and welcomed our guest speaker for the evening after another lovely meal prepared by the Golf Club Ladies.

Our guest was Nikki Chung, the President of South Coast FM our community radio station based in Wonthaggi, but broadcasting across bass Coast and South Gippsland. Nikki is now Melbourne based and a member of Benteigh Moorabbin Rotary Club where a great deal of her time is taken up with supporting the Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association of which she is also President. While living on the Bass Coast Nikki was a member of Wonthaggi Rotary and served a term as its President.

South Coast FM is a Community Radio Station run by volunteers predominantly covering the rural & regional areas of South Gippsland & Bass Coast Shires, but also parts of the Baw Baw, Cardinia, Casey, Latrobe, Mornington & Wellington Shires. The major towns it broascasts to include in Cowes, Foster, Inverloch, Korumburra, Lang Lang, Leongatha, Mirboo North, San Remo, Wonthaggi and Yarram. South Coast FM broadcasts from three FM radio transmission towers:

88.1MHz – Central: Korumburra, Leongatha, Wonthaggi, Inverloch.
89.1MHz – West: Phillip Island, San Remo, Bass.
89.5MHz – East: Foster, Yarram, Wilsons Promontory.
They also broadcast via internet live streaming and an on-demand service. Previously known as South Gippsland Radio 3mfm, South Coast FM is an incorporated body and registered as a charity. Operations are overseen by a Board of Management, elected by financial members. Nikki was asked to join the Board in2021 and is the current President and Chair of the Board. The station broadcasts a variety of different programs and musical styles. The daytime format features popular music from the 60s to today. specialist programs cover, Country, Jazz, Celtic, Classical, Blues, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, Heavy metal, New release Indie and much more. They also undertake outside broadcasts via a caravan or a simple trestle table.

Nikki was a very engaging speaker and we thank her for time travelling from and to Melbourne to share the story of South Coast FM.
