Shire of Leonora Welcome to the official page for the Shire of Leonora! Malcolm serves today only as a railhead and has a population of zero.

Leonora is the service centre for the mining, exploration and well established pastoral industry. Gwalia is a must see for the visitor as it has been restored to its original condition (as it was in the early 1900s) and boasts one of Australia's finest museums. Leinster supports a vibrant lifestyle and a population of 1400 people.

Vale Peter Strugnell

The Shire of Leonora extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of former CEO Peter Strugnell, who served the Leonora community from 1977 to 1980.

Peter's contribution to the Shire during his time as CEO is remembered with gratitude and respect. His service helped shape our community and laid foundations that continue to benefit Leonora today.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones, Judy, Samantha, Clinton and family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Peter.
