Our Year 10 LEAP students swapped the classroom for Rottnest Island for an action-packed trip filled with adventure, learning and plenty of quokkas!
We biked our way around the island, taking in the incredible scenery before heading out on a tour to discover more about Rottnest’s unique landscape and environment. Students got to see some fascinating sites, including the “poop farm” and desalination plant, and learn about how the island is managed and sustained.
For the brave (and those with a head for heights!), a trip up the lighthouse provided an unforgettable experience. Students learnt about the history of the lighthouse, including how mercury is stored and used, before tackling the very tall climb back down — with more than a few dizzy heads along the way!
Of course, no trip to Rottnest would be complete without quokkas! We spotted plenty of these famous island residents and, naturally, stopped for some photos along the way.
Our learning continued with a walking tour exploring Rottnest’s history, giving students a deeper understanding of the people, places and events that have shaped the island.
When the sun went down, the adventure continued! We headed out on night walks to see the lights of Perth, played volleyball on the beach, and made the most of our time together. Early risers were rewarded with some spectacular sunrises over the ocean.
It was a trip full of new experiences, challenges, laughter and memories — and one that our Year 10 LEAP students won’t be forgetting anytime soon!
