Yesterday, members from the Goodooga and Lightning Ridge SES Units were proud to support the 2026 Indigenous Games at Goodooga Central School.

With more than 800 students taking part, the event was a fantastic celebration of sport, culture and community. Our volunteers were on hand throughout the day, supporting the event and engaging with participants while showcasing the important role the SES plays in keeping communities safe.

It was also great to welcome a representative from the Western Zone team, who attended to support our volunteers and see the event firsthand.

A huge thank you to the organisers, school staff, volunteers and everyone involved in making the day such a success. We are proud to stand alongside our communities, not only during emergencies, but at events that bring people together.

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises The Culgoa River at Brenda peaked below the minor flood level on Wednesday.

The Culgoa River at Brenda peaked at 4.45 m around 10:00 am Wednesday 1 April, below the minor flood level. The river is currently at 4.10 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Culgoa River at Brenda is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.90 m).

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by floodwaters:

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises Flood peaks continue to move through the Culgoa and Birrie Rivers. Along the Culgoa River, the flood peak is approaching Brenda, where river levels may peak late this week. Along the Birrie River, river levels at Goodooga are expected to remain below the minor flood level and are approaching their peak.

The Bokhara River at Goodooga peaked below the minor flood level on Tuesday evening.

Along the Narran River, river levels at New Angledool No 2 have fallen below the minor flood level, following a moderate flood peak on Monday evening.

Flooding is no longer occurring along the Narran River.

The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 peaked at 3.55 m around 10:00 pm Monday 30 March, with moderate flooding. The river is currently at 2.52 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 is expected to remain below the minor flood level (3.30 m).

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by floodwaters:

Along the Narran River moderate flooding is occurring at Angledool, with a moderate flood peak possible during Wednesday. At Brenda and Goodooga, minor flooding is possible from mid-week.

The Culgoa River at Brenda is currently at 4.01 m and rising slowly, below the minor flood level. The Culgoa River at Brenda may reach around the minor flood level (4.90 m) around mid-week.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

- Low-lying roads, bridges and causeways along the river and creeks.
- Unsealed roads may still be impassable.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises The flood peak observed last week at Dirranbandi along the Lower Balonne River in Queensland is moving down through the Culgoa, Birrie, Bokhara and Narran River systems. The flood peak along the Culgoa River is around Woolerbilla, along the Bokhara River is around Hebel and along the Narran River is below Dirranbandi-Hebel Road.

- Angledool Road (SR102) is likely to close at the Narran River Bridge, 10km east of Angledool. This means that there will be no direct road access between Angledool and Collarenebri if this occurs.
