Over the first few weeks of History Month, Luhrs Cottage has welcomed many visitors, including several descendants of the Luhrs family. It has been wonderful to read the comments and memories shared in the visitors book.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, why not visit Luhrs Cottage? Entry is just $2 per person. Explore the Cottage and discover fascinating stories about schooling in Light Pass from 1846 onwards, including:
• Rules for teachers in the 1800s
• Teaching German during WWI
• The Children’s Patriotic Fund and how it was managed
• Humorous memories and schoolday antics shared by locals.
If you have extra time, download the Barossa Heritage Trails app and search for “Light Pass”. The app uncovers the rich history of our churches and cemeteries (and explains why there are two churches!), schools, farmhouses, historic cottages, post office, racecourse, wineries, cellar doors, hospital and more.
You can also listen to intriguing local tales including “The Headless Calf of Kalimna Road” and “The Myth of Mutter Jaeckel, The Witch of Light Pass”. Light Pass certainly has its share of stories!
A last-minute addition for tomorrow morning: Stockwell (just 6km away) will be hosting History Walks 10am & 12 noon. Cost is $15 per person, with concessions available.
Wander through the streets of Stockwell with an experienced and informative guide and uncover stories hidden within its historic buildings, from the Hall, Flour Mill, Hospital (1848), once used for both birthing and medical care, Police station are just a few of sites you will visit. Enjoy a special performance at St Thomas Lutheran Church and hear fascinating tales of grand openings, lively crowds and even a famously disputed church bell.
1st tour starts at Stockwell Hall. 2nd tour: start at 11.45 -2pm at St Thomas Lutheran Church for a performance of the historic organ. Light refreshment provided. Sausage sizzle fundraiser also available.

Google has decided to confuse me! Once uppon a time (like yesterday) I was able to attach my phone to my computer and download to my hard drive. Today that all stopped, I can share from my phone to any friends etc but not Luhrs Cottage. I learnt today all my photos go to Google photos, however I still can't share them, I am now sending them on FB to my grandaughter then copying them and pasting , but, yes there is always a but, I can't put comments under the photos. I really need to go to google school or get a new phone that just doesn't confuse me constantly,, and does just what I want it to do.
Enjoy

Hallelujah? Finally the moment has arrived after years of pondering how best to light our cottage, we chose eco-friendly solar power.
Today the front room was bathed in light and instantly felt warm and welcoming. No more squinting at the visitors book to read the days comments.
Photos to come
