HANDS ON LEARNING
On the 11th June, Thursdays Hands on Learning group had the amazing opportunity to deliver the mud kitchen that the three groups had spent about the last 7 weeks working on to Lilydale North Pre School. We built the mud kitchen completely out of recycled things we had laying around the shed. When we delivered it, the pre school kids started off a bit shy, but they started to warm up to us and by the end they didn’t want to stop playing with the mud kitchen and interacting with us. When it was time to go, we were all a bit sad but so happy that we got to help our community and see all their smiling faces and enjoyment playing with our creation.
We all feel super proud, and we hope they love it.

The Resilience Project.
One of the strategies that we will be using at LHC this year as part of the Resilience Project are GEM chats. GEM chats are brief conversations (typically 2-5 minutes) that encourage us to practice Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We would love for our community to also be involved in GEM chats that families can use at home to encourage conversation, reflection and to promote positive wellbeing. This week's GEM chat is....

Year 7 & 8 Girls Football Team Earn Bronze Medal
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 Girls Football Team, who represented the school with pride and determination at the recent interschool competition.
The team had a fantastic day, winning two of their three matches to secure a well deserved bronze medal finish. Throughout the tournament, the girls displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
What made this achievement even more impressive was the diverse range of experience within the team. Some students play football regularly on weekends and brought valuable skills and confidence to the team, while others were trying the sport for the very first time. Regardless of experience level, every player contributed, supported one another, and gave their best effort in every game.
The girls should be incredibly proud of their achievements and the positive way they represented our school. Well done to all players on a fantastic result!

On June 3, our Intermediate and Senior Boys took to the court to compete in netball.

The Intermediate team had a strong day, winning two of their three pool matches to secure a place in the bronze medal match. The team delivered an excellent first half, matching their opponents goal for goal and keeping the contest incredibly close. Unfortunately, Emerald pulled away in the second half, leaving our boys just short of a medal and finishing the tournament in a commendable fourth place.

While numbers were short for our Senior Boys team, with only three students attending, their spirits were not. Several Intermediate boys stepped in to lend a hand, allowing the team to take the court and compete. Their efforts resulted in a hard-fought loss and a draw against Lilydale High School's Senior Boys team.

Congratulations to all players for their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. We are proud of the way they represented the school, both on and off the court.

On Monday 1st June, our Y11 VCE-VM class hosted a fundraiser to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease (MND). MND is a progressive neurological disorder that deteriorates ones voluntary muscle ability such as walking, speaking, swallowing, and breathing. Our students believed MND was an important cause to donate to as their is no cure and they were quite aware of the extreme impacts on individuals due to its prevalence in the AFL community.

The students spent time during their classes across term 1 and 2 to plan and organise the day. The day consisted of a guess the jelly bean jar competition, baking and selling cookies, a staff vs student AFL match, sausage sizzle, and a dunk tank where the students could donate money to dunk one of their teachers. It was great to see the Y11 VM students using their communication and leadership skills to host an awesome day.

The day was a huge success with us raising $908, which will be donated to FightMND.

Well done Y11 VM students!

Year 9 Asian Art Culture

Our students recently explored the area of Sumi-e in Japanese Art Culture. The students trialled different techniques such as Chokujitsu, Sokuhitzu and Kataguma (Sanbokuhou). They then combined these techniques trying to capture the spirit and vitality of nature with minimal work incorporating some of their own influences and inspiration along the way. Here are some of their initial results.

Wishing our LHC families a lovely weekend ahead.
