Do you know a young person doing amazing things? It’s time to celebrate them!

Nominations are open for our Celebrating YOUth Awards, recognising the incredible young people in our community who are making a difference.

Awards include:
✨ Resilience and Perseverance
💡 Young Entrepreneur
🎨 Arts, Music and Culture
🙌 School or Community Improvement
📣 Passionate Advocate

It takes just five minutes to submit a nomination. Nominations close at 11:59pm on Saturday 31 October, with winners celebrated at an awards event in November.

A new mural in Belgrave celebrates the township’s vibrant character and the creative spirit of its residents 🎨🖌

The artwork has transformed a well-used pedestrian link while creating something equally important - opportunities for young people to contribute to the place they call home.

Led by Belgrave and Tecoma Township Group , in collaboration with Council, local artist Skubz, mentored four emerging artists to design and deliver the large-scale artwork.

The project was supported by a Yarra Ranges Council Annual Grants program with additional support from Telstra, Belgrave Traders and Bendigo Bank.

This week is the AnnualBirdLife Australia Aussie Bird Count!

Just spend 20 minutes in your favourite outdoor space and count the birds you see during that period. You can count as many times as you like and in different places, however, each session should only last 20 minutes.

Log your sightings on the Aussie Bird Count app as you go!

🗒️More than 30 community members have shared their ideas and local knowledge to help shape the future of Healesville.

Through a series of workshops held over the past couple of months, participants worked alongside Council staff to explore the opportunities and challenges in the town.

Their insights will help inform the upcoming Healesville Township Design Framework, helping guide how the town grows and evolves into the future.

We’re looking for new members to join our Council Advisory Committees, and we want to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds – including younger people with fresh ideas and different perspectives.

If you’re under 35, this is your chance to share what matters to you, have a say on issues that affect our community and help shape the work Council does.

There are three committees looking for new members:
🌿 Sustainable Environment (aged 18 and over)
💚 Health & Wellbeing (aged 16 and over)
♿ Disability (aged 16 and over)

Around 200 people joined us at Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve earlier this month for our very first Eel Fest! 😊

The event celebrated the Short-finned Eel, connected people with nature and shared Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung culture as part of Birrarung RiverFest.

Aunty Kim Wandin, Craig Murphy and the Djirri Djirri dancers kicked off the festivities with a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and a dance that invited everyone to join in.

There was plenty to discover throughout the day, from basket weaving and iuk art workshops to cultural and eel talks, live eels, waterbugs, painting an eel and building bushland cubbies.

Thank you to everyone who came along, shared their knowledge, helped bring the event to life and made our first Eel Fest such a special day 💚
