AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system in communities across Australia, and Launceston, Tasmania has been chosen as a test location.

Around 11 am on Monday 15 June 2026 if you are in or around Launceston, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

To learn what an AusAlert sounds like, visit ausalert.gov.au

Members from Lilydale and St. Patricks River spent this morning doing some burn training.
The burns were adjacent to STT plantations so emphasis was on containment.
Great working with the St. Pat's brigade and some valuable experience for the newer members involved.
After a nice lunch at their station we received a call out and responded to an incident on Prossers Road.

Many people wait until the end of the fire permit period to do their burns, but even outside the permit period there are still rules and regulations that we strongly recommend be followed.

• Register your burn – to avoid an unnecessary call out for the fire brigade, and to potentially avoid having your burn extinguished.
If you lose control of your burn call 000 immediately.
Your burn can be registered online via the myServiceTasPortal or by free calling 1800 000 699

• It is an offence to burn prohibited waste – asbestos, tyres, coated wire, paint and chemical containers and residues, rubber, painted or treated wood, plastics, oil, household waste, linen, foam rubber and polystyrene.

Lilydale brigade training activities from the last few days.
On the weekend three of our Lilydale members along with two members from Beaconsfield did their training to become chainsaw qualified.

Last night we travelled to the training facility at Youngtown to do multi scenario training.
Despite the wet weather all members enjoyed the experience, learned a lot, and are looking forward to more of this type of training in the future.
Scenarios included a small fire close to a structure, a car fire involving the rescue of a small child, and a structure fire that involved the rescue of a family of five which required the use of breathing apparatus by the BA qualified members.

On International Women’s Day we want to again pay tribute to the women of our brigade, who make up more than a third of our members.
Many of these women are among our top responders to training and incident callouts.
Thank you for giving your time and skills to our brigade and the community.

This afternoon Lilydale Brigade responded to a truck that had struck a power pole. The pole had been shattered in two places and the powerline torn away. The broken line had wrapped around the high voltage lines of the pole on the other side of the road. We were joined by Lebrina brigade, police and later TasNetworks.
We remained on site to keep the area safe and isolated from traffic until TasNetworks shut the power off.
