NSW SES Lismore City Unit

NSW SES Lismore City Unit The NSW SES is the combat agency for Storms, Floods & Tsunami with specialist roles such as Flood Rescue, Large Animal Rescue & Road Crash Rescue.

The Lismore City SES covers the Lismore City LGA - from Nimbin to Dungarubba - Parrots Nest to Clunes. NSW SES (New South Wales State Emergency Service) is the combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami in NSW. Description

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. Lismore City Unit is made up entirely of volunteers, who are ea

sily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood, storm and tsunami operations, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW. The NSW SES also partners with local communities through Community Engagement Programs like FloodSafe, StormSafe and TsunamiSafe. These programs are supported by strategies and resources, are delivered locally through a range of activities and events and are a priority for NSW SES. The aim is to engage at-risk communities on preparedness. response and recovery measures so that there is no loss of life and impacts caused by these events are minimised. This in turn builds community resilience to floods, storms and tsunami. For further information visit the NSW SES website at http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/

🌊🚗 Training for the rescues we perform most often 🚗🌊

Over the last few weeks, several of our members have been undertaking a range of flood rescue training activities across a number of locations. Taking advantage of the slightly swollen rivers following recent flooding, members have been refreshing and developing critical skills including wading techniques, tension diagonal rigging, free swimming across flowing waterways, tethered swimming, tethered swimming with a casualty, and tethered Ark manoeuvres. We also had the opportunity to test out a potential new flood rescue training location.

Thanks to the support of Rous County Council, we were able to utilise some of their facilities to trial a range of flood rescue training scenarios.

One of the biggest advantages of this site is the ability to safely increase and decrease water flow, allowing us to set up realistic rescue situations before introducing moving water.

The vehicle used for training is a stripped-out shell on wheels, with all contaminants removed, ensuring it can be safely used in the water environment.

Vehicle-related flood rescues are among the most common flood rescue incidents we attend. Having access to a facility like this provides an invaluable opportunity for our members to train in a controlled, realistic environment, helping us build skills, confidence and capability before those skills are needed in real emergencies.

A big thank you to Rous for allowing us to use their facility. We're looking forward to running more training sessions here in the future and continuing to build the capability of our volunteers to better serve our community.

Nick hit the nail on the head.

We do what we do for the community because we are part of the community.

These are our streets, our neighbours, our friends and our families. When people need help, we're proud to answer the call, not because we have to, but because we care.

With Thank a First Responder Day coming up on 10 June, we'd like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank all first responders who dedicate their time, skills and energy to keeping our communities safe. Whether you're a volunteer or a career responder, your commitment makes a difference every single day.

To our fellow emergency services, healthcare workers, dispatchers and support personnel.. thank you for all that you do.

And to our community, thank you for your ongoing support. It means more than you know. 🫶🧡

You are our people.

Thank you Lismore Square

A great night focused on safety, technique and teamwork before we get hands-on in the field. Big effort from everyone getting involved and building confidence together.

🧡 Orange you glad it’s WOW Day? 🧡

It’s Wear Orange Wednesday!

A day to recognise the incredible volunteers who step up each and every day to train hard and respond to protect our communities.

From storms to floods, day or night, our members are always ready to rise to the occasion and lend a hand when things get a little… under the weather 🌧️

Today we wear orange with pride, not just for the colour, but for what it represents.. teamwork, resilience, and a commitment to keeping our community safe.

Ever thought about volunteering? There’s nothing more rewarding than being part of something bigger.
