🌊🚗 Training for the rescues we perform most often 🚗🌊
Over the last few weeks, several of our members have been undertaking a range of flood rescue training activities across a number of locations. Taking advantage of the slightly swollen rivers following recent flooding, members have been refreshing and developing critical skills including wading techniques, tension diagonal rigging, free swimming across flowing waterways, tethered swimming, tethered swimming with a casualty, and tethered Ark manoeuvres. We also had the opportunity to test out a potential new flood rescue training location.
Thanks to the support of Rous County Council, we were able to utilise some of their facilities to trial a range of flood rescue training scenarios.
One of the biggest advantages of this site is the ability to safely increase and decrease water flow, allowing us to set up realistic rescue situations before introducing moving water.
The vehicle used for training is a stripped-out shell on wheels, with all contaminants removed, ensuring it can be safely used in the water environment.
Vehicle-related flood rescues are among the most common flood rescue incidents we attend. Having access to a facility like this provides an invaluable opportunity for our members to train in a controlled, realistic environment, helping us build skills, confidence and capability before those skills are needed in real emergencies.
A big thank you to Rous for allowing us to use their facility. We're looking forward to running more training sessions here in the future and continuing to build the capability of our volunteers to better serve our community.
