Interruption to Service – Water Supply Marrangaroo

UPDATE 3.42PM
Council has been advised by WaterNSW that the line has been repaired and is being repressurised. Service should return to residents late this afternoon or during this even.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Council advises that the water supply in the area of Great Western Highway, Marrangaroo may be affected due to ongoing emergency repairs on a WaterNSW mains break.

Residents in Great Western Highway, Marrangaroo, and surrounding streets, may experience low to no water whilst repairs take place.

Council cannot advise a time for the completion of repairs but will aim to minimize the period of disruption.

Upon return to normal service, residents may experience dirty water for a period. Council will endeavour to minimise this by flushing the mains. Before using the water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run the first tap that services their property to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed before running internal taps. If you continue to experience issues of dirty water, please contact Council on 6354 9999

Lithgow Waste 2 Art winners announced

Lithgow’s creative community has been recognised at the 2026 Waste 2 Art exhibition and competition, with local schools, artists and community members celebrated for transforming discarded materials into imaginative works that champion reuse and sustainability.

Waste 2 Art is an annual program led by NetWaste that challenges people’s perceptions of ‘rubbish’ by inviting creative works made from reused waste materials. This year’s theme, Shrink Your Footprint, encouraged entrants to create works that fit inside a shoebox, inspiring thoughtful responses to sustainability through arts and crafts.

Mayor Cassandra Coleman said Waste 2 Art continues to showcase the talent of the Lithgow community while encouraging practical action on waste reduction saying “Each year, the community of Lithgow participates in this program, challenging us all to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to see the possibilities and innovation that come from letting nothing go to waste,”

Judges praised the winning works for their originality, strong design and imaginative use of reused materials, with entries ranging from thought-provoking environmental messages to whimsical sculptural pieces. Mayor Coleman thanked all participants for contributing to another successful exhibition and competition, describing Lithgow as a brilliant, resourceful and creative community.

Award winners included:
• Zig Zag Public School for Riding the Wave: Shrinking our Footprint in Primary School (3D)
• Noah Hunter for Succulent Shoes in Primary School (Functional)
• Ryan Caffey for Modern Simplicity in High School (3D)
• Clare McAdam for Loose Fruit, Darn it, Op Shop, Handmade in Community (2D)
• Eithin Ashton for Dapper Frog in Community (3D)

The Council welcomes the announcement from the NSW Government that they have committed to rolling out a $3.5 million support package to assist small businesses and councils.

This announcement comes following the continued advocacy of the Lithgow City Council and Councillors to deliver support for businesses within our community who have been directly impacted by the closure of Victoria Pass.

The support package includes:

• $10,000 grants available to eligible small businesses in Mount Victoria, Hartley, Little Hartley, and Hartley Vale.

• $5,000 community event grants to Blue Mountains, Lithgow, Bathurst, Cabonne, Forbes, Oberon, Dubbo, Blayney, Hawkesbury, Western and Orange Councils to support local events aimed at promoting tourism and longer stays in the region.

• Specialised Business Advisory Service – Impacted business owners across the region will be able to access dedicated one-on-one specialist advice focusing on managing business disruption, alongside local support sessions. Businesses will be able to register through the Service NSW Business Bureau from 1 June.

• Business workshops will be held in Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Hartley, Oberon, Lithgow and Orange in June to advise on support services, cash flow, cost management, diversification and marketing. Delivered in partnership by the Service NSW Business Bureau and the NSW Small Business Commission with local organisations.

The Council will continue to advocate for further support from both the NSW and Federal Government as long as the closure continues to impact the lives of people in the Lithgow LGA.

The Council were pleased to join other businesses at Lithgow High School this morning for the Careers Expo which brought together businesses, community groups and training services to speak with students about future career opportunities.

The day was a great opportunity for local students from year 9 to 12 to discuss potential career pathways with opportunities for work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships at Lithgow City Council.

We also had members of our civil works team, who were happy to show students some of the heavy machinery used for roads around the LGA.

The Council currently has a number of positions available if you or somebody you know would like to join our team please visit: www.council.lithgow.com/council/employment-2/employment/
