Class of the Week - Term 2 Week 7, 5-6 Coral & Sage

🐾🦇 As part of Stage 3 Science, 5/6 Coral and 5/6 Sage have been exploring amazing animal adaptations and how these help animals survive in the wild. This week, the classes dived into the fascinating world of echolocation, trying out what it’s like to be a bat or a moth using sound to “see” in the dark! 🐾🦇

PSSA Boys Touch Football

Yesterday our boys touch football team played against Mudgee Public in the Quarter Finals of the PSSA knockout competition, at Tony Luchetti Showground. It was a super fast paced game with the ball moving quickly up and down the field. The Cooerwull boys were able hang in tight at 1-1 midway through first half before Mudgee found the momentum with very direct play of the ball and using short side overlaps to find the try line on several occasions. The second half saw Cooerwull working really hard and had many opportunities on Mudgee's try line but just couldn't quite put scores on the board. Although, Cooerwull weren't able to produce the winning result, they learnt a lot from the experience. The school is super proud of your achievements and fantastic sportsmanship.

PSSA Girls Touch Football

Yesterday our girls touch football team played against Mudgee Public in the Quarter Finals of the PSSA knockout competition, at Tony Luchetti Showground. The Mudgee girls shot out of the blocks fast, with super fast play of the ball, and it took the Cooerwull girls awhile to adjust to the speed of the game. The Cooerwull girls showed a lot of determination and were able to stay in the contest with very high completion rates and some nice ball movement. At half time the Cooerwull girls were down 1-4, but they were confident they could get back into the game. Unfortunately, a handful of drop balls put them under a lot of pressure, and whilst they had some opportunities they just couldn't swing the game. It was a super courageous performance and they should be incredibly proud of the way they played. There is a very bright future for this young team. Well done Cooerwull girls!

Pathways to Dreaming

On Tuesday, 2 June, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 3-6 took part in Western Sydney University’s Pathways to Dreaming program to introduce school students to future tertiary education, held at Lithgow Public School. The day started with making wattle seed damper, served with butter and jam, followed by a health sciences session where students used stethoscopes to listen to their heartbeats before and after exercise and tested their fine and gross motor skills. They also learnt four Darug and Gundungurra dances with Becky Chatfield. The day finished with a science experiment involving saline solution and spinach. Overall, it was an engaging and educational experience for everyone involved. We want to thank Lithgow Public School for hosting the event and all other local schools who participated so that students could work together with their peers.

Class of the Week, Term 2 Week 6 - SEU

This week, K/6 Copper has been learning about materials in Science and adjectives in English. They have been studying the book The Three Little Pigs to reinforce their understanding of different types of materials and the words used to describe them.
They conducted an experiment to test which materials repel water by throwing water on their teacher, Miss Lamont! Luckily, her clothes were made from waterproof materials.
The class has also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their features in Maths, and they enjoyed building their own models.

K6 Lime have been studying National and International Culture and Celebrations in History. Learning about Diwali and the festival of light, K6 Lime made lanterns.

K6 Mauve are learning about friendship and how kindness can help solve problems. After reading Enemy Pie, we are creating our own friendship recipes with our own ideas.

Well done everyone.

PSSA Boys Soccer

Yesterday our boys soccer (football) team played against Lithgow Public in Round 2 of the PSSA knockout competition, at Majorie Jackson Fields. The Cooerwull team launched into the game with an impressive opening goal. And while our boys dominated field possession they couldn't make it count on the scoreboard. The Lithgow team, on the other hand, took all their opportunities managing to put 3 goals away in the first half. The second half was an arm wrestle, before a couple of mistakes by our boys allowed Lithgow to take a four-goal advantage. The Cooerwull boys kept fighting to the end and were able to pick up a consolation goal, finishing 5-2 to Lithgow. We are very proud of your incredible efforts and fantastic sportsmanship.

PSSA Girls Soccer

Yesterday our girls soccer (football) team played against Lithgow Public in Round 2 of the PSSA knockout competition, at Majorie Jackson Fields. The Cooerwull team had a lot of new faces from last year but were very much up for the challenge. Well lead by our more experienced players, Cooerwull were in a very tight contest. It was 1-1, but unfortunately in the last 5 minutes of the first half, Lithgow were able to add an extra 2 goals. The second half, the girls stuck to the task of battling for possession, and finding some open space, but just couldn't quite capitalise on all their chances. The game finished with the scores at 4-2 in favour of Lithgow. It was a tremendous team effort by our Cooerwull girls and they should be very proud in the way they competed.
