Due to on-going staff illness, the retail area at the post office will be closed today.

There are people working in the mail room area and we've put the bell out for the hatch on the PO Box verandah.

If you're collecting a parcel, feel free to ring the bell and we'll help you out.

Please understand this is for parcel collections only.

We thank you for your patience and understanding in this difficult and unforeseen situation.

This is what your post office knows about the upcoming census.

There has been an unaddressed mail campaign going on to provide information brochures.

The post office doesn't have any census forms, and it doesn't seem likely that we will receive any.

There is no local census contact (apparently there was for a while but they exited the role).

Some forms have been distributed by a census person who flew out from Brisbane for a short time.

About the best the post office can offer at the moment is the Census people's "Get Help" link:

https://info.census.abs.gov.au/help/get-help-near-you

Sorry we can't be of more help.

Interested? Drop a CV in to the post office or have a chat to Dave.

Huge shout out to the delivery team here. 26 pallets on Monday, another 11 yesterday and another 6 today. Because of their amazing effort, we expect the whole lot to be cleared by sometime late this afternoon.

That's well in excess of 1000 parcels delivered in two days so far.

The delivery team absolutely rocks!

26 pallets of mail and parcels into the post office this morning.

It's going to take a little time to clear the backlog from no mail last week.

Please be patient. We know you want your parcels but so does everyone else and we're working as hard as we can to get everything delivered as quickly as possible.

Please don't come into the post office asking for your parcel - due to the high volumes involved, it just isn't possible to go looking for one specific parcel.

The highway is currently closed between Jericho and Barcaldine. It appears likely that it will not reopen until early next week.

There has been no mail delivered into Longreach since Monday and it looks likely that no mail will reach Longreach until Monday or Tuesday next week.

There has also been no mail heading east from Longreach since Monday afternoon and this will continue to be the case until a mail truck gets through the currently flooded area.
