Wake before dawn on Sunday 9 August and witness the spectacular launch of Patricia Piccinini’s iconic 𝘚𝘬𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘦 and 𝘚𝘬𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢 as they rise above the Riverland skyline at sunrise.

Presented by the National Gallery of Australia as part of 𝘚𝘬𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘈𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢, these monumental hot air balloon sculptures are set to take flight from The Precinct at Loxton Oval, creating a magical moment of wonder, imagination and connection unlike anything seen before in the region.

Bring a rug, gather your family and friends, and experience the excitement as the giant skywhales inflate and drift into the morning sky.

Riverland Preventative Health Officer Danielle Crisci recently met with Arts and Culture Officer Simone Stretton and Loxton Retirement Village Manager Eve Will to discuss how the upcoming Seasons of Creativity program can support healthy ageing across the Riverland.

Research tells us that staying socially connected, mentally stimulated and actively involved in our communities can have a significant impact on our overall health and wellbeing.

That's where Seasons of Creativity comes in:

🔸 Encouraging lifelong learning and skill development
🔸 Keeping minds active through new experiences
🔸 Building confidence and a sense of purpose
🔸 Creating opportunities to stay engaged with the community

Through a range of free workshops for Riverland residents aged 55+, participants can explore new interests, learn something different and connect with others in a welcoming environment.

📝 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 📝

At its meeting held Wednesday 17 June, Council:

✅ Approved a budget allocation for consultancy services to undertake an efficiency and operational review of council service delivery

💬 Considered the submissions received during public consultation for the Annual Business Plan

📚 Adopted the valuation, rates and Annual Business Plan for 2026/27, with some additions to the capital and operating budget

📉 Endorsed the Draft Long Term Financial Plan for 2027-2036

🧾 Adopted the proposed fees and charges for the 2026/27 financial year

📨 Approved a rate rebate application

📄 Adopted the reviewed Asset Accounting Policy and Full Cost Attribution Policy

🅿️ Supported a request for overflow parking for Warrawee Lodge residents under an annual licence

✈️ Endorsed a long-term hangar ground lease at the Waikerie Aerodrome, following public consultation

🏫 Moved to progress with crown land dedication requirements for the soon to be former Woodleigh site

🪖 Endorsed a 5-year lease for the Waikerie Army Cadets

🏊‍♂️ Supported an application for the 2029 SA Country Swimming Championships to be held at the Loxton Swimming Pool

🌻 Endorsed the Draft Riverland Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026-2030, subject to endorsement from the Berri Barmera and Renmark Paringa Councils

🪧 Approved a request for signage installation from the Kingston on Murray Primary School

🚧 Adopted the proposed 2026/27 road resealing program

🚐 Endorsed the Mobile Food Vending Policy and confirmed that mobile vending of alcohol products on Council land will not be allowed outside of organised events

🗣️ Approved a number of motions without notice, including:
- Expenditure for the repair of Waikerie’s Bond Store
- A report for Snap Send Solve usage in the district
- Liaison with Premier Stateliner SA, Department of Transport, to confirm pick up and drop off requirements in Waikerie.
- Investigation of the removal of Athol Pines behind the Rowe Street Pump House in Waikerie

𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦!

This free leadership program will support 10 young people aged 15–17 to develop leadership skills through volunteering, workshops and practical involvement within local sporting clubs.

Participants will have the opportunity to attain 10 SACE credits through alignment with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award framework, while developing valuable skills in leadership, communication, coaching, officiating and community involvement.

To ensure strong regional representation, two participants will be selected from each major Riverland township:

📍 Berri
📍 Barmera
📍 Renmark

If you know a young person who demonstrates leadership potential, positive attitudes, reliability and a passion for community sport and recreation, encourage them to apply.
