Following on from our Metro South team winning the State Rescue Challenge over the weekend, Acting Chief Officer Kristy Phelps and District Officer Craig Brassington visited the unit for our Tuesday night training.
We were able to review photos and videos from the weekend and discuss with the rest of the unit the different scenarios the team competed in.
Metro South took out a triple win - the team won the quiz night held on Saturday, which was sealed by incredible dance moves by George, along with Metro South member Hannah Hilton winning the best casualty award with her amazing acting skills in the mass casualty stand. The third win was retaining the title for the 2nd year in a row.
Below are a few shots from both the Metro South camera and the photographers on site, capturing some action shots of the team. Scenarios this year included tilting a horse float to rescue a stuck casualty, crawling through a restricted space to rescue multiple people, a mapping and navigation exercise, and an impalement through the chest.
Please note these photos were taken during a training activity and do not show the unit responding to a real emergency.
Our winning team now get to fly off to Queensland in September to compete in the National Disaster Rescue Challenge!
Also of note was our Unit Training Coordinator and Crew Leader, Nikki Burns, being presented with a Premier's Certificate of Recognition for her contributions to our team and the Metro South unit as a whole with planning training sessions, organising inter-agency exercises and ensuring we are prepared for any event to come!
Congratulations Nikki, and thank you for what you do for Metro South!
