Thank you to our Lysterfield community 💜

Today, our staff had the opportunity to come together to attend the celebration of Elise Ryan’s life, loved daughter of Mrs Rachel Ryan.

We are incredibly grateful to our families for the care, understanding and support you showed by making alternative arrangements for your children this afternoon. Your willingness to support our staff during such a deeply sad time meant a great deal to us.

Thank you also for the many kind messages, well wishes and expressions of support that have been shared with Rachel, her family and our staff.

At times like these, we are reminded of the strength and compassion of our Lysterfield community. Thank you for supporting us. 💜

Our Prep students are building their spelling knowledge through the PhOrMeS Word Work program; saying, spelling, moving and thinking together as they practise their ‘weird words’.

Matching actions help make the learning memorable, while plenty of opportunities to respond keep every student actively involved.

We’re thrilled to see the wonderful learning of our Grade 5 students shared by Ochre Education.

Our War Horse unit became so much more than reading a great novel. Connecting the story to Sandy, Australia’s own war horse, and then bringing that history to life through our connection with the Sandy the War Horse Committee created such a meaningful learning experience for our students.

We love seeing learning extend beyond the classroom and connect our students with Australia’s history and our wider community.

Thank you, Ochre Education, for sharing our story and for creating rich learning opportunities that inspire us to build even further.

📚 BOOK WEEK AT LYSTERFIELD! 📚

On Monday, our school was transformed as some very special characters arrived for our Book Week celebrations!

We had Minions, characters from Harry Potter, Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, football and basketball players, Woody and Jessie, and many, many more wonderful characters filling our classrooms and playground.

One of the highlights was our Where’s Wally? (aka Where’s the Teacher?) hunt, with students searching high and low throughout the school to track down our cleverly hidden teachers! 🔎

It was wonderful to see so much creativity, excitement and enthusiasm across the school as we celebrated the joy of books, characters and reading together.

A huge thank you to our students, families and staff for getting into the Book Week spirit and making the day so much fun! 📖

We’re kicking off our 2026 Book Week celebrations with our Book Week Dress-Up Day and Parade!
Come dressed as your favourite book character and join in the fun!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families are very welcome to come along and watch!
We can’t wait to see the creativity, costumes and characters as we celebrate this year’s theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’.

🫣 SUPPORTING ANXIOUS LITTLE MINDS 🫣

A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who joined us for our Supporting Anxious Little Minds parent seminar last week.

The evening explored how to recognise anxiety in children, build resilience, and use practical strategies to support children to manage anxious feelings and develop self-regulation skills.

A key message for all of us: we can't always remove life's worries and challenges, but we can help our kids develop the confidence and skills to know they can cope with hard things - a valuable reminder for adults, too.

A huge thank you to Georgie Manning from Wellbeing for Kids for sharing her knowledge and practical strategies with our Lysterfield community!

🔬 Celebrating National Science Week at Lysterfield Primary School! 🧪🚀

Yesterday, LPS was buzzing with curiosity, creativity and scientific discovery as we celebrated National Science Week with our Science Celebration Day!

Throughout the day, students enjoyed hands-on investigations, experiments, STEM and engineering challenges, and an exciting Big Science, Big Fun live science show.

From investigating dinosaurs, chemical reactions and galaxies to experimenting with Skittles, our students had plenty of opportunities to wonder, question, predict, observe and think like scientists.

Students also proudly showcased the incredible learning taking place through our STEM program, sharing their Sun Chimes, balloon-powered cars, Candle Carousels, wind turbines and Mini Lighthouses with families. It was wonderful to see them confidently explaining the science behind their creations! 🌞🎈💨💡

And the science celebrations didn’t stop when the school day finished!

🧱 Our LEGO Masters Family Challenge brought families together for an evening of creativity, engineering, imagination and plenty of fun. We were incredibly excited to welcome David Velasquez, winner of LEGO Masters Australia Season 3, who shared his LEGO journey and some expert tips before taking on the very difficult job of judging our family creations!

A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for making the day such a wonderful celebration of science, STEM and learning.

LYSTER-TRACK 5 × Rowville District Champions.
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

An amazing effort by our Track and Field athletes to win a 5th consecutive District Title. It was a massive team effort with all students smashing their personal best and supporting each other in true Pegasus spirit.

Congrats to all our LysterTRACK team, staff and families for their energy and effort today.

On Monday, the Grade 2s had their very own Poetry High Tea, filled with delicious treats and amazing poems! ☕️🧁📖

As part of our poetry unit, we first analysed ‘Be a Friend’ by Edgar Albert Guest, exploring how he used rhyme, repetition and rhythm to share a message about friendship. We then used these ideas to create our own poems, drafting, revising and rehearsing before presenting our final poems.

It was wonderful to see the students proudly share their writing and celebrate their learning with their classmates and teachers, whilst enjoying some scrumptious food!
