Southside Band Fest – What an Incredible Day!

What a fantastic day our Senior Band students had at Southside Band Fest!

Our students had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with musicians from other schools, coming together as one band and learning an amazing five pieces of repertoire in just one day!

There was plenty of hard work, concentration and teamwork, but also lots of laughter, new friendships and FUN! The students finished the day by performing their newly learned pieces for their very proud parents, what an achievement!

A huge thank you to Miss Emily Walker for organising such a fantastic event, selecting the repertoire, and making sure every student was engaged, included and having fun throughout the entire day. Your passion and dedication made the day so special! We are so lucky to have you!

We would also like to say a big thank you to Victoria Park State School for hosting the event, and to all the wonderful Music Coordinators from:

🐻 We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

Our Get Set for Prep morning on Wednesday was so much fun!

Our future Preppies had a wonderful time joining in with our Bear Hunt activities, exploring, playing and learning.

We loved seeing so many smiling faces and can’t wait for more Get Set for Prep fun every Wednesday! 🌿🐾✨

🏆 AN INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT – CONGRATULATIONS MR MITCH! 🏆

A huge congratulations to our teacher aide, Mitch Prest, who has capped off an outstanding season with the Mackay Cutters by receiving not one, but TWO incredible honours – Players’ Player and Player of the Year!

To be recognised as Player of the Year is an amazing achievement, but to also be voted Players’ Player by your teammates says so much about the respect Mitch has earned both on and off the field.

Mitch has had a fantastic 2026 season with the Cutters, taking the field in 19 Hostplus Cup games, running for more than 2,300 metres, making almost 500 tackles and crossing for four tries.

And there is even more excitement ahead!
Mitch has recently signed with the Warrington Wolves and will head to England in 2027 to continue his rugby league career in the Super League.

What an incredible achievement and an exciting next chapter for this talented young Mackay footballer. You will certainly be missed here at school.

Wednesday & Thursday only before and after school

🎶 What an incredible weekend of music-making! 🎶

A huge congratulations to our three talented students who were selected to participate in SHEP – State Honours Ensemble Program over the weekend!

SHEP is an intensive music extension program run by the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, bringing together high-achieving school musicians from across the region. Students are nominated by their school music teachers, with final participants selected by Griffith University based on their musical performance and experience.

Over three very busy days, our students rehearsed for approximately 15 hours alongside other talented young musicians, working with experienced conductors and performing in large, high-calibre ensembles.

Each ensemble was challenged to learn FIVE pieces of music, putting their musicianship, sight-reading, musical knowledge and performance skills to the test. It was an incredible opportunity to be stretched, challenged and inspired while making music with peers performing at a similar level.

After an intensive weekend of rehearsals, learning and collaboration, all of their hard work culminated in a fabulous final concert on Sunday. 🎵

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school so wonderfully and embracing such an amazing musical opportunity.

Congratulations – what a fantastic achievement! 👏🎶
