Community engagement: connecting with great people in Business!

⚡️ A LOOK INTO THE WORLD OF WORK! ⚡️

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting some of the Year 11 students from Mackay State High School as part of their workplace program.

The students have been visiting businesses around Mackay, getting an insight into different industries and trades, what makes a business successful, what it takes to be part of a great team, and what employers are really looking for in their employees.

And of course, Rossco was absolutely in his element! 😂

Give him a room full of young people and an opportunity to talk about the electrical industry, business, careers and life lessons, and you can pretty much guarantee the conversation is going to keep going!

We love being able to share our experiences with the next generation, answer their questions, encourage them to explore their options and, most importantly, remind them that there are plenty of exciting career paths out there if they're willing to have a crack and chase them.

A big THANK YOU to Mackay State High School for thinking of Barcam and including us in such a fantastic program. We think giving young people the opportunity to see behind the scenes of local businesses and hear directly from people in the industry is incredibly valuable.

Who knows... we might have been chatting to a few future sparkies yesterday! ⚡️👷‍♂️

📚 Student Free Day

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday 4th September, is a Student Free Day.
While students are enjoying a day away from school, our non-teaching staff will be participating in professional development as we continue to build our skills, knowledge and capacity to support our school community.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back after a productive day of learning and professional growth.

We are excited to offer $500 P&C Scholarships to support students as they begin their Mackay High journey.

Scholarships are available across three areas:

Students are welcome to apply in more than one category where appropriate.

FASHION CLASS | In house Fashion Event

How to end a Term 3 design & fashion unit, celebrate with guests & a Fashion parade!

A fun afternoon spent hosting classroom guests to view the fashion pieces the students have put time & effort into. Finishing with sandwiches platters, drinks, cake & refreshments provided by our Home Ec class.
Great work done by the whole class in event organisation, set up & clean up.

CALENDAR Date Claimers | TERM 4 CELEBRATIONS 📌🔖

Term 4 is going to be a very special one at Mackay State High School as we come together to celebrate the achievements, talents and milestones of our students.

We encourage families to pop these important dates into the calendar now:
• 20 October – Sports Awards Evening
• 23 October – Arts Showcase Evening
• 4 November – Clontarf Awards Evening
• 18 November – Academic Awards Evening
• 20 November – Year 12 Graduation 🎓

For our Class of 2026, there are also some additional important dates to keep on the radar, including Senior External Exams and Graduation Rehearsal. Please see the attached Year 12 calendar for all the details.
We are looking forward to finishing 2026 strongly and, most importantly, taking the time to recognise and celebrate our students and everything they have achieved this year.

A View from the Inside! | Industry, Vocation and training visits

A huge thank you to Barcam Electrical, Sammut Harvesters & Hydraulics & Komatsu for hosting our Year 11 students yesterday and giving them a valuable view into your workplaces.

These visits create great connections between students and employers, allowing them to hear first-hand about different job roles, trades, projects and workflows across the domestic, commercial, agricultural and mining sectors.

Conversations & insight into the realities of running a profitable business — including managing expenses and budgets, delivering excellent customer service, maintaining a positive workplace culture and importantly finding enjoyment and pride in what you may want to do.

Being a promising job applicant when applying for a job: do lots of work experience while at school research a few trades or positions, how you present yourself. Be on time. Dress appropriately. Be confident. Show initiative. Be prepared to talk about what you can offer. It can feel daunting but have a go at selling yourself and demonstrating your strengths.

Employers notice these small things. They are often the details that help build a great team and can make a lasting impression when opportunities arise.
