The Neighbourhood Hub

The Neighbourhood Hub Our purpose is to respond to the needs of our community - powered by people, driven by community.

We are accessible for children, youth, families and culturally diverse members of our community. Further, we provide information and referral to all who need our support. Our goal is to build resilience and capacity in our local Mackay community.

🎢 There’s so much more happening than just playing an instrument!

At Move with Maria, children are given opportunities to explore, experiment and discover through music and movement. Every tap, sound and interaction is part of their learning and development. πŸŒ±πŸ’›

This week marks the 40th anniversary of Queensland Child Protection Week, a state-wide campaign raising awareness of child abuse prevention and supporting children, young people and families, while recognising the professionals and volunteers working to protect and support them.

As part of the week, we are attending Party in the Park at Queens Park on Wednesday 9 September from 9 am, a relaxed community event promoting child protection and well-being, with local organisations on hand to connect with families about the support available to them.

For us, family means connection, care, and belonging. We support families in all their forms, and our programs are designed to strengthen relationships, build resilience, and create lasting connections within our community.

Keeping kids safe starts with all of us!

We had the amazing guys from Treadwell Tyre Service pop into our staff meeting last month and give us a refresher on car maintenance and changing a tyre, something so simple but so important for making sure we're safe on the road.

Thanks Geoff and Maree, always a pleasure having you visit us!

Connecting the community through compassion, care, and a few practical life skills!

What a month! August was jam-packed, and with Multicultural Month running alongside everything else, there's a lot to share.

We kicked off with Census information sessions to help community members navigate the process with confidence, attended the NQ Connect Whitsundays, then joined CASA Mackay for their Together For Shelter event, bringing housing, health, employment, and well-being services together in one welcoming space.

Our workshops ranged from toilet training to scams awareness, real, practical know-how that parents and community members could put to use straight away.

Multicultural Month saw us hosting our own Multicultural Open Day and joining the Islamic Community Open Day, celebrating the cultures that make our region what it is. We carried that thread all the way to Brisbane, where we attended the 2026 Celebrating Multicultural Communities Reception at the Parliament House and the Queensland Multicultural Awards in Logan.

Our Anti-Poverty Week Appeal for 2026 officially launched too, kicking off preparations for one of our biggest campaigns of the year.

Drumming for Seniors Connect made a welcome comeback, Midweek Meals got a boost thanks to DBCT and NQ Power Up Electrical, and we launched our brand-new Safety, Skills and Connection Program, made possible by Community Bank Sarina.

Treadwell Tyre Service dropped by our team meeting to show us the basics of car maintenance and tyre changing (genuinely useful knowledge), we celebrated Book Week at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, and caught up with Trading Tracks Queensland at Forbidden ONYX.

And on top of all that, our regular weekly programs didn't miss a beat, Ready Set Prep, Move with Maria yoga, community playgroups, Seniors Connect, the Food Diversion Program, Hello Baby and our parenting programs all kept running as usual.

Whether we were out in the community or representing the region across the state, August was another reminder of what's possible when we all show up for each other.

Connecting the community through compassion and care! 🏑
