🌿 World Environment Day 2026 🌿

Today we celebrate the vital role plants play in sustaining life on Earth—and here at Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, we’re surrounded by that every day 🌏💚

Every plant tells a story of resilience, biodiversity and connection, reminding us why protecting our environment matters.

🌱 This World Environment Day, we encourage you to:
✨ Reconnect with nature
✨ Learn about native plants and conservation
✨ Take small actions—plant, protect and preserve

Thank you to everyone doing their part, big or small—every action makes a difference.

Botanic gardens are more than beautiful spaces—they’re living landscapes supporting biodiversity and community wellbeing.

🌿 Visit us this weekend and be part of it.

✨🌿Plant in the Spotlight

Neofabricia myrtifolia, or Yellow Tea Tree is a flowering shrub, 1-4m high which naturally occurs in North QLD, around Cape York.

A very ornamental plant, valued particularly for its aromatic yellow flowering display, and for the soft pink colour of its new shoots, it is certainly something to consider growing as a feature plant.

📍Find this shrub flowering in the Australian Showcase Garden, along Lagoon Street in the Botanic Gardens.
