***Medal Spotlight***

The Australian Operational Service Medal – Indo-Pacific recognises the service of Australia Defence Force members who have served on contemporary operations across the Indo-Pacific region.

Eligibility
To qualify, Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and allied foreign Defence Force member must have been deployed or force assigned for duty as a member of a declared operation for a period of 30 continuous days or for periods that total 30 days.

Operations include:

Operation GATEWAY – ADF contribution to the preservation of regional security and stability in South East Asia

Operation RENDER SAFE – Support to the South Pacific Island nations for the disposal of explosive remnants from World War II

Operation AUGURY (Philippines) – ADF support to the Government of the Philippines to develop indigenous capability to counter terrorism and violent extremist organisations

Operation ARGOS – ADF contribution to the international effort to enforce United Nations (UN) Security Council sanctions on North Korea.

The Afghanistan Medal was introduced in 2004 to recognise Australian involvement in military operations in Afghanistan and other prescribed areas within Operation Slipper, Operation Palate, and Operation Palate II.

The eligibility requirement is 30 days service or 30 sorties in the prescribed area after 11 October 2001.

The Anniversary of National Service 1951-1972 Medal is a commemorative medal awarded to Australians for their service in post-war national service schemes.

The Australian Defence Medal recognises current and former Australian Defence Force personnel who completed an initial enlistment period, or four years service, whichever was the lesser.
