On this day 20 years ago, NSW made smoke alarms mandatory in every home.

Two decades on, the law still stands. Working smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test them monthly and replace them every 10 years.

Before the sun rises, we remember.
Our ranks have long been shaped by military service. Firefighters who served in the World Wars, and in the conflicts and humanitarian crises since. The skills, the discipline, and the Anzac spirit carry across. Many never returned. Their names, and their sacrifice, are part of who we are. It is a connection that runs between our service and theirs, and one that continues to this day.

Lest we forget.

A few of our crew recently had the chance to attend a skills refresher day at the Fire and Rescue Emergency Services Academy. 🏫

They teamed up with crews from other stations and got hands-on experience working through a range of realistic scenarios, including multi-storey rescues, petrol station incidents, door entry, and gas cooling techniques. πŸ”₯

Training like this is a great way to keep skills sharp, build teamwork, and make sure we’re always ready to respond when our community needs us. πŸš’

Did you know that we offer FREE home fire safety visits? πŸš’

During a safety visit, we will attend your home and check that you have working smoke alarms, that they are in good working condition, and are installed in suitable areas. If you do not have one, firefighters will install a long-life battery-powered smoke alarm as well as replace existing smoke alarm batteries all at no cost.πŸ”‹
