Maleny State Emergency Service (SES) is one of the dedicated groups forming part of the Sunshine Coast Unit, operating within the North Coast Region.

This SES Week, we’re reminded of the incredible commitment our volunteers dedicate to supporting our communities.

One of those volunteers is Gary, and we’re proud to announce that he has progressed to the rank of Field Operations Member!

Behind every SES volunteer is a strong support network of family, friends and government.

That’s why this year’s SES Week theme is ‘Ready, Together’, recognising that when we work together, we build stronger, safer and more resilient communities.

A proud milestone 👏

Congratulations to Bill and Joe on receiving their epaulettes and attaining the rank of Community Member - the first step in what will no doubt be a long and dedicated journey with the SES.

SES volunteers give their time to support their communities, stepping up when Queenslanders need help most. Bill and Joe now join that proud tradition of service.

Congratulations to those who lead by example!

Recently, Connor was appointed to the executive rank of A/Deputy Group Leader.

The role recognises Connor’s longstanding commitment to the local community, his support of fellow volunteers, and his dedication to strengthening SES capability at a local level.

As A/Deputy Group Leader, Connor will help lead members and support operations - ensuring the group remains ready to respond when our community needs it most.

Appointments like this are a strong reminder of the dedication, service and quiet leadership shown by our SES volunteers every day.

Congratulations to B’Jae on attaining the rank of Leading Field Operations Member - the highest non-executive rank attainable within the SES.

A truly outstanding achievement, and a testament to years of dedicated service.

This recognition reflects exceptional technical expertise, operational capability and leadership - earned through years of commitment to serving the community and supporting fellow volunteers.

Heads up Queenslanders, an emergency test alert is coming on Monday 27 July 📢

The Australian Government is launching AusAlert - a new national warning system that will send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. It’s a fast, reliable way to help keep you informed during disasters like floods, cyclones and bushfires.

Before the official launch in October 2026, a national test will be held.

📆 When: Monday 27 July, 2pm (AEST)
📲 What will happen: Mobile devices across Australia such as phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
🚨 What to expect: The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds – even if your phone is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.

If this could cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything. But in an actual emergency you should follow the alert instructions to help keep you safe.

Yesterday, members of the Sunshine Coast SES gathered at the Nambour Red Cross Lifeblood Donor Centre to donate blood and plasma, helping save lives and support patients in need.
A special congratulations to Jared from Maleny SES Group, who donated plasma for the very first time. This was a significant personal milestone for him as a proud member of the SES LGBTI community, and we're incredibly proud of his commitment to making a difference.
Every blood and plasma donation has the power to change lives. Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves today to help those in need. ❤️🩸

This National Volunteer Week, Maleny State Emergency Service recognises the dedication of our volunteers - the local men and women who give their time, skills and energy to keep our community safe.

From storm and flood response to road crash rescue, land search and vertical rescue, our members stand ready around the clock, in every condition.

To our volunteers: thank you for your service to the Maleny community and the wider Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Today is Wear Orange Wednesday! 🧡

WOW Day recognises the incredible contribution our SES volunteers make to the community.

From storm damage and flood rescues to road crash response and general community assistance, our orange army turns out in all conditions to help others when it matters most.
